Leveraging the Pipes : About

Hi Marlon. Our <a href=\\\"http://mediacommons.psu.edu\\\" rel=\\\"nofollow\\\">Media Commons group runs audio and video recording studios at close to 30 locations between University Park and the distributed campuses across the state. They spend most of their time consulting with faculty and students about making their own recordings, editing them using a variety of tools, and posting them online. Most of this work is at the \\\"good enough\\\" level that is intended for course assignments, although they will help students who are majoring in something like film, photography, or music with more professional-quality editing. For very high-production work, we would refer people to the television and radio station that is part of the university\\\'s Outreach unit.

It was only $3.99 last weekend (50% discount). It's back up to $7.99 here, so not too far off of the UK price. If you send your iTunes userid to allan at parkedthoughts.com, I'll gift it to you out of my pocket. Yes, I believe in it that much and I think you will too.

Hey Beth. I used to be a member of Front Runners as well when there was a local chapter in our town. I might be doing the Disney Marathon in 2013 as well - or possibly the Philly Marathon this year. Either way, I might see you. Good luck on your running adventure!

Agreed. There are a lot of things that don't work quite right about SuperBetter as-is, but I like this attempt to use game elements to focus on academic goals.

I could talk your ear off about Activity Theory (CHAT) and how things are just artifacts that mediate human activity, but I won't. I need to give that a nod though since that has shaped my interest in verb focus.

Thanks Natalie. One of the presenters later on (Ruben) had done some analysis of all of the topics that were posted and how they had morphed and merged. It was fascinating. When his video is available, I may post it. It was an anthropological perspective on our concepts of "social", "mobile", and other ideas that we think are new.

Awesome - thanks for the info on the race. I looked up an elevation profile and you're right, that uphill climb around mile 16 looks like it's straight up. The overall elevation gain and loss seems to be about the same as Pittsburgh, so I'll keep integrating some hills into my workouts, just in case. I looked up my race information: Bib: 27426 Start Info: Blue Wave #2, Corral #27 Start Time: 10:10 AM I'm really looking forward to it. I've been applying every year since 2008. They finally took pity on me.

Heh - the phrase "call on God, but row away from the rocks" has always stuck with me. Not that I'm religious, but the combination of hope and purposeful action are powerful - and in fact the only way that anything gets done.

Right. He MAY be okay. He MAY not. By not going close to the distance, he will have no idea what will actually happen on race day and may not be able to handle something new that happens in his body because it isn't used to running more than 6.2 miles. 13.1 is a significant jump! I'm a very optimistic guy, but that doesn't mean just hoping for the best. It means doing everything you can to ensure your success and THEN hoping for a good outcome.

Thanks other Brandon. I seriously doubt I'll be in Alaska anytime soon, but you never know. Anchorage sounds like a real-enough city, but I was imagining it being surrounded by some pretty untamed lands. Running into bears or moose sounds like a not-good time. On my runs, the most dangerous things I need to worry about are cars, stray dogs, and an occasional gray squirrel.

Thanks Paul. That calculator is pretty cool. It matches what I typically wear. Of course, it didn't have much advice for me when I cranked up the temperature to 95 degrees. Something like "Yeah, you might want to hit the gym instead brother. You're going to melt."

Running with the Pack Podcast : Running with the Pack 108: Pittsburgh Marathon Meet Up, Tapering, Stupid Running Mistakes, and More

First of all, I'm sorry for the loss of your mother. I'm very happy to hear that our little show has given you some comfort. I haven't heard of SI joint distinction, but know a little about it now, having looked it up. Hopefully it is the type that can be addressed through stretching and strengthening. The show is called Running with the Pack, but that doesn't mean you need to run. Your physical therapist may recommend some other exercises that will work better for your body like walking or swimming. The important thing is to follow the motto of the show: Get your body moving, have fun, and feel like a champion. At many marathons (including Pittsburgh and Philadelphia among others), walkers are welcome. I can promise you that if you call next year having walked a major race, Stevie and I will play your call and cheer your success just the same as if you had qualified for the Boston Marathon. All race accomplishments are personal. Finally, when you do participate in an event, celebrate your mom. Her struggle will fuel you to train and complete the event, even if it is painful. And when you're done, you'll probably cry your eyes out, both from her memory and the joy of completing the event.

I'm a competent swimmer, but with some help, I could go just as fast (or faster) with less effort. Swimming is so much about form. If I remember, I'll mention it on the show as well to help the more-beginner folks.
