Race Relations Project : 300,000! What's it mean to me...to us?

That is a great quote, even though the man was crazy. But it is completely true. People shouldn’t have to attach themselves to everyone who dies in the world. We should just show sorrow for a little bit, but not dwell on it for days on end. Life is too short to sit around and be depressed all day long. With every death comes life, and we can learn and move on from experiences. The human mind is quite interesting, and our emotions are important to us. The hardest one to show is sadness, and it should be the one shown the least, to keep the human race goin.

Exactly. No one really wants to dish out all their sad emotions on everything in the world that happens and is sad and tragic. We all save it for the moments when we lose someone truly close to us. I feel like everyone has basically said the same thing. People aren’t bad because they feel that way, we just try and not have everything affect us, because it would drive us crazy in the long run. The people that say I’m wrong I feel are just saying it so they don’t come off as a bad person, and they are NOT! We care more about anything about our loved ones, and that’s the way it should be.

part 3: But is it really selfish to say that I care more about my own family than others. Family comes first, or at least it should to most people; even though it doesn’t. Every creature on the earth shows compassion, dogs cry, and animals know when they’ve lost something dear to them. But when a lion is walking through the plains of Africa and sees 5 dead lions, he won’t do a double take. Human beings are more complex, but still; people save their sadness emotion for their own personal use with people in their own lives. That’s the way it should be. Getting over a loss of a loved one is one of the hardest things to do in the world, and if everyone in the world got THAT upset about everything bad that happens in the world; this would be one sad depressing planet.

part 2: There should always be a few days of mourning, but every day is a new day; a new day to move on. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe every single day should be spent mourning those who died in the tsunami and the earthquake in Haiti. But it really shouldn’t. Death is inevitable for all of us at some point. No one can just live forever, although I don’t think anyone would really want. There probably will be a judgment day some day, but probably not in our lifetime right now. The day the world ends would be considered something that would be upsetting for an extended period of time, but that won’t happen. Or ironically it will happen in 2012 so we can all kick the director’s ass who made the movie last year. Americans are self centered in general, we all know that. There is a lot of people who didn’t even acknowledge the tragedy in Haiti. I donated multiple times, but I’m not sitting in my room now thinking about how horrible it is still. Maybe I’m one of those non-caring Americans.

part 1: When there is a national tragedy, everyone stops and notices for a day or two, but people will move on and still go to work laugh and live their lives normally. It’s important that people acknowledge when something horrible happens; however it doesn’t mean that everyday must be spent in constant misery and sorrow. Someone in my high school had a father who died in the September 11th attacks. He would see that day differently that other people because he was directly affected. I sound horrible probably, but I’m just saying that’s how most people see it. When we lose a sibling or a parent personally, our lives are never the same because a big part of it is gone forever. There is going to be a myriad of more tragedies in this world, but if everyone lets these events ruin every minute of their lives, no one would ever be happy.

Race Relations Project : Women

You hit it right on the nose. If being overweight was the cool thing to do, every skinny woman in the world would eat more to gain that weight. Our society is based on trends, and it’s especially noticeable with women. Every model in the world is ridiculously skinny and beautiful, but who said that you have to be that to be a real woman. It’s disgusting. I hope and I pray that someday women open their eyes and focus on more important things. How about more equal rights because they still aren’t equal to men. They need to wake up and stop being so materialistic and jealous!

Why though? I don’t care when I see cologne models for Armani from like Italy or wherever who are really good looking guys; it doesn’t faze me at all. Women need to stop being so insecure. And the problem isn’t going to get any better because Hollywood won’t stop making movies like transformers where half of it is Megan Fox running in slow motion making women who aren’t that beautiful hate who they are as a person. It really sickens me, and I thought women were better than that because they’ve fought so hard for equal rights. I’m pretty sure the old women who did so much would be disgusted with how people act now.

part 3: Although women have come a long way in society, they are still inferior and I don’t feel it’s fair. But then again, the fortunate women who marry the rich husbands because they have DD breasts aren’t helping that problem. Men have more security with who they are in life. Although our egos are fragile, we’re not all concerned with what everyone else thinks about us. In the end, the play honestly was great and it really opened my eyes. I probably sounded sexist in this blog but I’m really not, I just wish more women learned that not everything a guy cares about is boobs and ass. I enjoy someone who talks and makes me laugh, not a monotone girl with 50 pound boobs.

Race Relations Project : Women

part 2: The play we saw in class was a great depiction of how many women in this country act on a day to day basis. Girls will do anything to get 4 or 5 more double takes from guys on a day to day basis. Passing up the opportunity to give away the surgery to someone who REALLY needed it; and using it for your own personal benefit; while a little extreme, is the general gist of it all. Hollywood makes things worth. In general, they over-exaggerate the stereotypes of everyone, but with women the media and Hollywood makes everyone think they have to be perfect looking. In the Chinese Olympics in 2006 I believe it was, they made a cute little girl lip sync because she couldn’t sing well, and made the ugly girl hide behind the stage and actually sing the song, which is so messed up. But that explains the culture in this world. The Brazilian underwear models you see in commercials lead to women committing suicide because they don’t have that body. Or in the Middle East, the women can’t even show their faces in some countries.

part 1: I am not sexist by any stretch of the imagination, but women drive me crazy with one thing; their ridiculous insecurity with everything. People think guys are bad, trying to cover up pimples in high school because you want to bang the cheerleader blah blah blah. Women are twice as bad and I don’t quite get it. There are so many women that dress only for guys, and only care about making sure they show everyone how hot they can be with their 80 dollar Victoria’s secret bras and Hollister tight jeans. I respect the women that don’t give a crap whatsoever; or in other words the women with SOULS. I don’t go out and buy the expensive muscle tee shirts from Abercrombie and Fitch, I buy what’s cheap and comfortable and could care less if a girl walks by and says, ew I’d never touch him.

Race Relations Project : The White Minorities

Everyone needs to be open to change, because it’s happening and there’s nothing we can do about it. And exactly we weren’t the first ones here; we took over a different group of people. It only makes sense that one day someone may come along and de-throne us. And it’s not even like white people are being “de-throned”. It’ll just be a much more culturally diverse country, that’s all; which is a very good thing to say the least. No one in the world should be afraid; and for all the redneck racists out there who are afraid; get over it. It’s happening, and the world isn’t going to end.

Interesting point about the lower middle class Hispanic population boom. That will probably happen yes, and being that I’m half Hispanic, I am in that category. But don’t worry I’m not offended! But also your right it really won’t matter who is in the majority. White people’s status will never be reversed, there will only be less of them. But this country would be a better place with a culturally mixed myriad of people. More input, more ideas, and more innovations toward a brighter future with all those different cultural minds coming together to make decisions! I’m not worried, and no one else should be.

part 3: This is the last thing that should be on people’s minds. How about the fact that the new generation of kids is so dumb, and the graduation rate and SAT scores are in the gutter. Maybe that should be something that gets fixed, not that black people are having more babies than white people. So no my white half isn’t concerned with this. I care about my future, and trying to make the United States a “better” place, not a “white” place. Whoever is the majority in the United States needs to make sure things are going in the right direction. We’re all stuck on this shithole together, but yet all we do is fight. We’re all the same race, but we look at each other differently. That needs to change. And it doesn’t matter who is in charge, we all need to work together. A multi-cultural country is just what we need to make the entire world hold hands as one.

part 2: It’s not like all the Hispanic, Asian, and black people will go around with torches when they finally have the majority and kill every white person left alive. They won’t create an anarchy government and destroy everything in the world. Who the hell cares? We have a black president; minorities aren’t incompetent to run things. There are Asian CEO’s, and Hispanic politicians and they don’t run everything they do into the ground. God what is with the notion that white people are just better? I’m half Hispanic, with a closer relation to my Hispanic side. I have the most Italian sounding name in the world, Anthony Vaccarino; but believe it or not I’m half Colombian and half Irish. So I’m very excited for my people to take over so I can run the streets with ak-47s like some third world country and kill everything that moves! No! That’s not what’s going to happen.

part 1: Time is not written. There is no pre-determined “fate” of the world and everyone in it. It has long been seen that white people will be the minority in this country one day, and it is clearly happening. And my answer to that… who cares. I’m not like a crazy radical extremist, even though I come off as one sometimes in these blog posts. I have a strong opinion but I don’t go crazy to express my point of view. I’m not the black guy we saw in class who said the only way to stop all the problems in the world is to eradicate every white person off the face of the planet. No that’s not me; but I truly see no problem with who is in charge of the number one superpower in the world, however long THAT even lasts at this point.

Race Relations Project : What are all of you thinking about Asians?

It is a sad truth. And some people just aren’t willing to expand on themselves, and only hang out with people in their racial or ethnic group. Even if you look in class, there are several spots where just African people sit together, or just Asians sit together. I have friends of every race, and everyone should have a multicultural life. Asians and Hispanics can teach white people things they won’t learn in their own bubble culture. But yes, your right, most people do think that way, and it probably won’t change in our lifetimes. All we can do is hope and pray that the next generations are smarter and more tolerable than the dumb ignorant people that inhabit this planet now.

I agree completely. Most people do think that way when someone raises their hand to say something. “Oh it’s just another Asian or black guy talking, they must all believe this to be true”. And it’s such a dumb and ignorant thing to think but it happens more often than you’d think. As a society, people need to be looked at as individuals, and not the Jewish group, the gay group, and the Asian group or whatever. I’m Hispanic, but I’m not the same as the other 4,000 Hispanic people that go to this school. Not in any way at all.

part 3: He or she is the same as me; the exterior features are just adjusted a little bit. It’s nothing more than that. If someone disagrees with me, I could care less. Say something. Prove me wrong. They’re different because…. And another thing; Asians are the funniest people in the world. I have so many tool white friends that think they are, but Asians are always funny, I don’t get it! So in the end, this kid is right in saying they’re all lumped together, and it probably won’t ever change. For a racism free society we need a group of people willing to make that change and move forward, and it sure as hell won’t happen today. But words of wisdom to you, who cares what people think of you. In one ear and out the other. If someone pisses you off, don’t fight them, just walk away and never think of it again. They’ll get theirs one day. You’re the same person as everyone in this 700 person class, our exterior features are our only difference, inside were all humans.

part 2: Jewish people will be very covetous with money because other Jewish people are. You’d be surprised how many people don’t have the strength or the will to be their own person. I could give a shit what people think of me, and I’m Hispanic. I’m Colombian, so people assume I do coke and drink coffee, uh wrong. But Asians to me are the same as everyone else. It’s the individual that chooses to be smart, not every Asian is smart, trust me. I guess I’m past the awakening stage, or I also feel like people in New Jersey aren’t that racist. They’re assholes a lot of the time, but not racist. PA has a lot of racist bigots. People don’t make fun of my friend Vince because he’s Asian in the fraternity house I live in. He is who he is, and people get that. But we live in a world where your either in the “in” group (meaning white) or the “out” group. It’s completely ridiculous, but clearly racism will never be eradicated. So what is an Asian?

part 1: My best friend since I was 8 has been an Asian kid named Vincent. He’s Filipino, but not from there, just a Jersey kid. He has also been my roommate in college the past 3 years. He does not fit into the typical stereotype of Asians. Let’s go over some of them. Asians can’t drive, they study, they’re cheap, and there’s a myriad of other ones but that’s beyond the point. Stereotypes we’re invented because of the majority people’s fear of something different. Everyone’s the same, but stereotypes prevail because people assume that they have to fit into their group.
