totally agree. Outsourcing can not be the main issue. Boeing wants to build planes. If I had a company that developed a new product.... I would have to manufacture all of the parts and the product. Several years down the road a company may come along that builds these parts. Well I would probably outsource manufacturing of the parts to this company so I can assemble the final product.
I would imagine it is very difficult to run a business when the average wage for 27000 workers is 60000 a year. then you have what...12000 engineers that make over 80000 a year. No wonder they are trying to outsource. At the rate these contracts increase every three years, Boeing will be looking like GM....risking losing their business here in America.
Wonder how much the union negotiaters are making ....bet its good...while others get their 150 a week
My company builds wire harnesses for boeing. We have had to rebuild parts because Boeing engineering messed up. I imagine this is because management rushed the project.
thats funny cause I heard people refer to unions as being socialist
some of this outsourcing is to other companies in America. My company builds parts for Boeing. Our newest project is parts for 787. We built the parts then boeing tells us to rebuild them because they got their engineering wrong and the parts will not work. The majority of the problem is trying to finish such an important project so quickly. At least now they can blame it on the strike.
I definetly agree that Company board members are paid way too much...but Dontwait...you said that you have good pay and good benefits and this contract provides more. Your on strike because you got your feeling hurt about the way boeing negotiated? So you are willing to go on strike even though it means many Americans that work for Boeing suppliers will be without a job and possibly lose their homes. For what? is the pay raise not big enough? you will have to pay more for better health insurance. guess what health costs go up every year. take it up with the government. This is a rising cost for the business. They have to either make you pay a little more or give you a smaller raise. Either way. And because all of you are paid so well, Boeing has to outsource work to remain competitive. Yes Boeing has a lot of capital built up.....This helps boeing keep from making too many risky loans that could cost you your job. I encourage you to fight for something worth fighting for but this contract will lead to a strike in three years because boeing will not be able to offer much next time. I guess I will be taking a long vacation every three years because my company will not go back to work until boeing does.
Boeing GF...I completely undertand what you are saying. I work for a company that bought us from Boeing. Our contracts always suck....always did under boeing also. The thing is...I have a decent paying job... I think it should be more. People at Boeing there make way more money than I do. they are skilled workers but came there and got trained. They deserve good pay. The thing is...the ones that have been there for a while are getting excellent pay and excellent benefits. The union went on strike for them and the ones that need better pay are the lower seniority people. They probably will not get much out of it and will possibly be laid off after the strike. I am sitting at home waiting for the strike to be over so I can go back to work and I dont even work for Boeing. Read some of my posts. Oh and I am under IAM union Also. IAM states they represent all americans....What a bunch of BS. They do not care what they are doing to IAM workers here.
what can they renegotiate? I agree big companies are greedy, but they will not give up outsourcing and I feel this union is greedy because I am sure they understand that there are thousands of people that do not work for boeing but are out of a job until the strike is over. these thousands of people where not prepared to be out of work in an already shaky economy. The union did not care enough about other Americans that will lose their homes and possibly much more because they were not happy with the like almost 25000 dollars over three years or more. Was it worth ruining lives of Boeing suppliers especially those that are covered by IAM union and were never even told to prepare until a week before? And of course I am sure someone will tell me to quit whining....Tell me that when you are in the unemployment office because Boeing could not afford to keep you. You do understand that boeing is heading the same direction as American auto makers dont you? the union is continually negotiating you out of a job. What do you think led to all the outsourcing? Think about it!
you will be kicking yourselves in the behind when you negotiate yourselves to unemployment. What will you negotiate in three years? Boeing will eventually build a plant somewhere else where they can afford to pay the employees. Probably in southern states where the unions do not run the company, but protect the employees from unfair treatment.
