Get a grip and actually look into the science. This was ONE scientist making the claim, dozens of other debunked them. The fact one happened does not make him right. he was off on both time and location. No scientist int he field acknowledges his methods.
Just because you're all ramped up to blame the government doesn't make this guy Nostradomus.

I don't see how my growing up in CA would some how miraculously change the definition of "imminent." Quakes happen on fault lines all day every day. Thousands of them every year in Japan and hundreds every year in CA. It is a GOOD thing. The small quakes release pressure and prevent big ones. Of course one is "imminent." Probably several a day.
This guys science was way way off and his actions to evacuate people meant he believed it would happen RIGHT NOW. You don't evacuate people if you think its off in the distant future.

Regardless of what the article says, and yes I did read it, I also read about 10 others from other sources which were much better informed than this tripe, what this "scientist" did wasn't acceptable. Without permission from local authorities he began telling everyone to EVACUATE. This first of all wasn't his responsibility and second of all, as a scientist should have known his methods were not accurate or reliable.
I can sit on a street corner and scream for everyone to flee because a crash is coming and if I do it long enough, eventually one will happen. All this guy did was sit on a fault line and then tell people "Look see I was right!" when one went off a long time into the future.
I grew up in CA and have dealt with quakes my whole life. For the better part of 15 years we've been told the big one is coming. If it does, you can bet there will be 200 scientists all climbing over each other to blame the government for not acting on their "science."
All this article is doing is pointing fingers and laying blame on HUMANS for NATURAL phenomenon. It's like all the blame on government for the tsunamis a few years back.
Bad things happen. If you want to assign blame, then assign it to the morons who built on fault lines and did it with sub-standard building codes. Don't run around screaming about a junk-scientist who claims to predict the end of the world.

You're more than welcome to chip in and try to develop the technology if you like. Doesn't change the fact it doesn't exist right now and that this guy didn't actually predict the quake.
You're also delusional if you think animals can predict them. They don't. They react to micro quakes we can't feel. This isn't prediction, it's sensation.
I get that you want this "happy feel good" thing to work out but you need to ground youself in reality or you just come off as a whacko.

The fact one happened a month later has nothing to do with this guys predictions. He said it was imminent but never said where it would occur.
I think you should look into what political correctness is. This is entirely unrelated.

The fact that a quake happened later on does not mean his prediction was correct. Quakes can not be predicted, the technology doesn't exist. I grew up in CA where they are common and where we've been told the "big one" is coming for the better part of 15 years.
Bottomline is that the guy predicted it was imminent. It wasn't. The fact one happened later on doesn't mean he was correct. I could stand on a street corner today and "predict" a crash. I could even give scientific evidence and statistics one would happen. If after being carried away by the police a crash happens a week or month later then you can not say I was correct in my predictions.
