Asshish - the most likely reason for your failure is the firmware version 3.0 you are pointing to is not the one for your model of iPhone. There are three versions of this firmware. One for the original 2G handset, one for the 3G handset and one for the newest iPhone, the 3GS. We recommend you get whichever file suits your handset type from Apple and point redsn0w at that and you'll see success. Details of where to get the three different firmwares can be found in our 3.0.1 jailbreaking blog post here http://www.abouthere.co.uk/blog/iphone-3-0-1-jail...

about here : How to fix: The sim card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported

First and foremost unless you got an absolute bargain, why would buy the phone overseas? Secondly, if you bought it overseas and it wasn't unlocked out of the box, it will have come with an official sim card for the network it was tethered to. Why throw this away? Keep everything when you buy from abroad in case you might ever need it. Thirdly, it can't be hard to buy a Pay as you go sim on the network for the country you got the iPhone from, eBay is an excellent source for such things. Fourthly, the post is not useless to people who bought a foreign iPhone, it's just not suited to people who don't have all the necessary tools to hand. Given you've had such little success finding an answer to a way around your problem, it's probably because there is no current way around your problem because of the way Apple designed their iPhone. Of course, if you do eventually find some engineered process by which to eradicate your problem. please post it to your own blog (which I see you have) to share such knowledge with the world, or at the very least post it to the many different places you feel have failed you with relevant information to your situation.

redsn0w requires you to point at the 3.0 firmware file. Are you using the firmware file linked to in the blog post (i.e. downloaded it from the source we\\\'ve listed) or are you using one you already had? I ask because it transpires that the version we\\\'ve got posted above (as a link) is for iPhone 3GS only. Am looking for the iPhone 3G (and original iPhone) firmware file.

Just in case you've not seen these elsewhere: We've also had reports from some people that if they've got a CD/DVD in their optical drive it's not worked (v weird) and we've also had people report that if they had any other USB devices connected it didn't work, so try removing all of them except for your iPhone and try again.

Hi, first of all, typing all in capital letters in considered to be shouting. We don't appreciate being shouted at when we offer our help to others for nothing. Have you read the other comments in this site, in particular the ones above your one which suggest numerous things in addition to the original post: i.e. disconnect USB devices other than the iPhone, use compatibility mode, make sure there's no media in the optical drive. This process is proven and tested, if it's not working for you, then it's most likely down to one of the factors mentioned or an issue with your PC.

Have you read through the comments and other articles on our site where it\\\'s suggested that if you are installing on either Vista or Windows 7 that you should use Windows compatibility mode. Right click redsn0w.exe and select properties. You\\\'ll see on one of the tabs the compatibility mode. Set it to Windows XP Service Pack 2. You should now find the jail break works.

It works very quickly on the iPhone 3GS, but is a little slow on the iPhone 3G. The person who maintains and runs the Cydia repository does spend a lot of time tuning the tool and developing it. There are times when it is slower than others and occasionally offline; however the majority of the time it works well. Developer is @saurik on Twitter The speed issue is basically down to the amount of memory it uses to run. Glad it was useful to you! ;-)

about here : Are you paying enough for your broadband connection?

Reply Part 2 The reality is, so many people don't rely on or use their Internet connection for any kind of continuous service. Many simply don't care or will put up with flaky service. I don't and won't. I am also a customer of Cerberus. We don't get anything for recommending them, but they are one of the few companies out there that will offer a "real" Internet connection to home users for a sensible price. If you want to have stability, reliability and continuity you need a 1:1 connection and not a mass product solution. I'm interested in seeing how things are going to change in the coming years. At the moment many speed limitations (theoretical top speed connection not necessarily actual speed) are due to the kind of and quality of telephone cables between the telephone exchange and your home. Distance plays a large factor too. You may well live 2 miles away from the telephone exchange, but the distance in cable might be 20 miles due to the cable running up and down street after street before it gets to you. There are changes afoot to resolve this. Those green boxes near the end of your street are telephone cabinets. The telecoms companies are planning on replacing the cable from the telephone exchange to these with fibre optical connections. This "Fiber to cabinet" approach will remove huge amounts of distance related connection issues and provide big increases to our download theoretical top speeds. The core of what Sam has written is spot on - there's too much confusion put out by the very companies we pay to supply us with services. There's a lot of rubbish spouted too. BT's claim that their wireless Internet connection is better than any other is completely unfounded and irresponsible advertising. Even on this simple level of wireless in your home spin the confusion is put in place. How Joe Public is meant to understand the rest of broadband technology and be able to make an informed decision about who they use is beyond me?

Reply Part 1 The one thing that people have the greatest difficulty understanding is contention. This very weekend I was talking to a group of mates and they were moaning about their broadband being really fast some of the time, but terribly slow the rest of the time. They had no idea nor any understanding of the fact that the Internet Service Provider was providing them with a low cost solution because they were effectively being sold 1/50 of a connection (pipe) for their £5pcm. In some senses, if you want to get a business model like that of the Carphone Warehouse where you charge not a lot, stack lots of people in and then hide behind a faceless call centre you can make a lot of money. 50 x £5 = £250 vs £24 x 1 = £24 per pipe Of course this is in very simplistic terms since the ISPs have to pay money to BT for connections etc. (Less so no that they can put their own equipment in telephone exchanges through the Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) schemes; however not many people know, if you move your telephone service on to one of these lines, BT are well within their right to charge you over £100 to reconnect you to BT (or another provider) if you decide to leave a LLU provider.

about here : How to fix \"Different SIM Detected\" after installing Ultrasn0w

Hi, You don\\\'t put an un-official carrier sim after you\\\'ve installed ultrasn0w, you do it before you install ultrasn0w and then you must reboot after installing ultrasn0w before it\\\'s most likely that the un-official sim will work. You should install ultrasn0w using your wireless connection and not your approved carrier\\\'s data plan. You should also make sure you do a compete restore to Apple firmware before doing the redsn0w in order to ensure the phone is properly cleaned and has nothing on it (as if it was brand new out of the box). Cheers,
