GazetteOnline.com : This baseball fan touches them all

What a great story and interesting character. It is always so nice when somebody has a passion for something that is so powerful and motivating no matter what the subject matter is. Well unless it becomes a crazed obsession (remember The Fan). I couldn't help wondering through the whole story if this man had a girlfriend and if she was too was a fan so thanks for the footnote at the end. Now I want a follow up story too see how this all ends.

GazetteOnline.com : How hot is it?

You know here in Florida from May until September we alternate between the car, the house and the building which are all of course air conditioned with the occasional trip outside but only with a pool of water nearby. Nothing gets worn except for shorts, tank tops and flip flops even when going out to a nice dinner. But of course we are used to this and expect it and even look forward to it every year. But when not expected guess it can take some getting used to up there! Enjoy your summer! Why were you walking barefoot through sandspurs to get to school?

GazetteOnline.com : Which Exit for Super Bowl in New Jersey

Last week I was telling somebody a story from my New Jersey childhood and they said "Yeah but why would you go to New Jersey and I said I had no choice I was born there! LOL Unfortunately the Sopranos and the Jersey Shore have done nothing to improve the image of that state. If anything maybe just made it a bit worse! I agree, keep the Super Bowl in warm, pretty climates where people want to visit! Not to even mention crime and security!!!

Millions of fans including me would be devastated if Tebow does not get picked in the first round. But let's hope he finds an NFL team and a coach with the standards and beliefs that he lives up to. It would be a shame if he fell into the wrong hands and there are plenty of those!! I know he will be an inspiration on and off the field no matter where he ends up. Go Tim Tebow!!

I agree 100% with Pugonick and I too am waiting for Tebow to shut everybody up! Once they see what he is made of and what he can accomplish they will be singing a different tune. I would take a whole team of Tebows and Angerers.

What bad could anybody possibly say about Tim Tebow, a guy that plays his heart out and tries to lead a good example on the field and off. Perhaps Jones should stop running his mouth long enough to check his facts! And you wonder why Texans have bad reputations. Because of big mouthed jerks like this!!

GazetteOnline.com : So, what do you think of the Tiger/Nike ad?

I think the amount of conceit and arrogance he has is astounding. He seems to think that he can put a commercial on TV showing his dad's displeasure with him and that will make the world forget or feel better about what he did. The few people that don't care about what he did in his personal life will still be there for him, the rest of us are still disappointed. I hope this conversation between him and his deceased father has indeed taken place but not in a TV commercial and not for his personal gain. I am holding out hope for him.

GazetteOnline.com : Doc Gooden needs help ... again

Reading this story made me so very sad even though we hear stuff like this every day. It is such a shame when somebody is blessed with true talent yet the demons and addictions get ahold of them and they can't or won't get help. It seems actors and professional athletes have the additional "curse" of having the money to actually purchase all the drugs and alcohol they want which could possibly be a deterrent to the average Joe. You can't help but think about Darryl Strawberry while reading this and then being thankful that he got the help he needed before it killed him. Hopefully Mr. Gooden will also find his peace and recovery soon. I wish him well and hope for the best. Don't let the demons win, Doc!

GazetteOnline.com : Masterful stroke for Tiger

Wow so glad the thousands of dollars he spent on sex rehab have worked and now he is cured! NOT! Maybe he learned a lesson and maybe he didn't but it seems like he is coming out of all of this unscathed and still considered a "hero" to many. The real work I believe will be Elin's to learn to trust this man again if that is possible. No amount of money makes the humiliation less painful. Once again the person that did nothing wrong is the one to suffer. I hope she has a good support system to help her through this. She may forgive him but who could ever forget......

As if stealing all the newspapers could make the story go away! Instead of trying to cover up what happened maybe they should be concentrating more on how to make this kind of story not happen again. How about not being arrested on drug charges or better yet how about being a top notch athlete and not doing drugs period! Oh no that would make life too boring!

GazetteOnline.com : Rebel Yell

Okay you better sit down because I am in full agreement with Pugonick. First of all this is such a tiny, miniscule problem in this messed up world of ours. Second of all the teams are being cherished and worshiped and looked up to-- nobody is demeaning them or making fun of them. The whole idea of a sports team name is to prove they are tough and mighty and better than the others. Why should anybody be objecting to that? If they want to call the Redskins the "Italians" and have a plate of spaghetti as their logo and Antonia Sabato as their mascot more power to them! Just another example of going overboard on politcal correctness. I say get a life and focus on the real problems, like poverty and illegal drug use.

Another great moment in US history! Although not as spectacular as the one 30 years ago, a victory none- the- less. Funny how few things have changed. Look at how the Russians, South Koreans and other countries are still jealous of us now and criticizing us everytime US wins a medal. They are claiming unfair judging and other unfounded accusations whenever they lose and the looks on their faces still seems to say it all. In some ways we have come so far, but in others not far enough.

Mighty Goliath has fallen-- Mighty Casey has struck out-- Every dog has its day-- The Thrill is gone-- The Mighty is now the Mighty Stupid-- Whatever analogy you want to use the great and powerful Tiger is no more. Oh sure in the pro golfing world he will come back, play his game and be back on top, I have no doubt of that. But in every woman's (and some men) heart he is a disappointment and simply a mortal man who proved he was no better than anybody else.

Wouldn't you think with one of the largest races in the country they would have taken measures to prepare for something like this or at least made sure it would not happen? Yes I do agree this has been one of the coldest seasons ever in Florida but who hasn't heard of potholes and sinkholes due to the cold? I have spoken to many who attended the race and they all agreed that the delay definitely affected the mood and the atmosphere of the Daytona 500. Nascar like anything else is not what it used to be. But true fans will never die!
