Excellent piece, Robert! Happy Independence Day to one and all Americans!
Greek philosophers like Aristotle and Plato were influenced by the Persians after the Greek-Persian wars. Later on, Islam was influenced by the Greek philosophy and claimed it for their own.
I can't help but wonder if Obama has even read any of these poets. Not to mention art - can he even distinguish Timurid from Safavid art? Ah, maybe he'll have his head thinker do it for him and post it on that teleprompter...
The language evolved over the centuries - Firdausi set the standard for modern Persian and that was in the 11th century. Before that, Pahlavi, Avestan, and a number of other transitions existed. Frankly, I think the Persians were smart enough to not completely give up their language and culture to the Islamic invaders. Avestan is still the standard for the Zoroastrian scripture but like Latin, it's not a "spoken" language.
Yes, it is a Zoroastrian holiday and unlike modern Iranian Muslims, place a copy of the Avesta on the Haft Sin table. I can only hope Obama never has to give a message regarding the Avesta while addressing Iran...he is bound to screw it up royally...
The Mutazilite was closer to Zoroastrianism in doctrine - that's why Sunni Islam rejected that, too.
Which is true. Not to mention, at least the Roman Catholic church is consistent with its stance on abortion and the death penalty.
"Blood always flows where the muhammadan goes"
And nobody knows like me.
There should be a great parody song like that, sung to the tune "Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes."
"Peaceful uses" yeah sure Larijani, we all know what you're perverse idea of peace is about.
