Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : #158. Calling someone just "Pastor" instead of their first name.

pastor certainly not a name, but it is a title (and not simply a job). One of the things I think we have lost in Christianity today is a respect for titles and positions. I see this when we talk about our pastors, our president, our law enforcement, etc. I by no means think that any pastor, our president, parents, or any other authority is perfect, but I do believe that God has asked us to respect authority structure not on the basis of the person but on the basis of the position. I do think that should be reflected in our speech and how we address those in those positions.

good root issue... I think you made a post on hiding gossip in prayer... which would seem to fall under the same category... I will keep my eyes open to see if any other posts fit this line of thinking.

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : #82. Books that become empires.

the real tragedy is that in many Christians lives these books will replace the word of God. While I do enjoy reading others' insights into Scripture I hope they will never replace my time in it for myself

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : #40. Ignoring the Sabbath.

John, after reviewing the comments here I see another topic that might be worth addressing. There seems to be a very inconsistent approach to Scripture in Christianity today. I think I might send you an e-mail about doing a category on biblical study faux pas's.

yes Jesus did, you have to understand that there was nothing in the law that did not allow Jesus to heal on the Sabbath. When the Pharisees accused him of violating Sabbath, Jesus was violating hundreds of years of rabbinic tradition that had been interwoven with the law

Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : #39. Giving expert advice on things we've never experienced.

I think the root of this issue is biblical ignorance and not understanding what the whole sections of scripture are for. I as a young pastor often have to speak on things I have had no experience in and the only way to have anything intelligent to say is to draw from the foundation of the word of God. I think sometimes the reason we are afraid to say "I don't know" is that we know that if we really gave the amount of study that we should he might have something intelligent to say.
