WSBT South Bend - Your Local News Leader : South Bend teachers take aim at state\'s proposal to fix struggling schools | WSBT - News, Weather,

How many people have really sat in our classrooms to see what really goes on? Don't get me wrong, SB has a majority of students who are prepared to learn and do a great job. Why doesn't the union get credit for that? There are a myriad of problems with education; lack of funding, lack of administration, lazy teachers, politicians who know best, parents, lack of student interest, and the list goes on. You can't run a school like a business. You can't fire a poor performing student. Bennets solution is to create charter schools. So will the charter schools take all of the students regardless of record? If the state takes over the schools, who will run/staff them? I, at least, want someone running the schools who is familiar with educational practices. South Bend schools are a local concern. The state needs to stay out of our business.
