Crasstalk : Hey, Hollywood Actresses, Your 'Likableness' is a Factor Too

This is a stellar list, SF, though I would have added Kate Winslet to the mix. Haven't cared for her since she started showing us her hoo-ha all of the time. Not to mention the fact that she can't shut up about having been overweight. At this point, having been famous for 15 years, maybe it's time to accept your (incredibly fortunate) lot in life.

Agree. At some point, Michael turned into a run-of-the-mill asshole to me. I don't like that they gave him the happy ending either, but at least he won't be on the show anymore. And a big WTF to the disingenuous "What a good boss you were" from Jim last week.

This was a terrible movie. But I did end up reading the book, and I think it would have made a great documentary.

I haaaaated that movie as well. That same year, a great little indie called Stephanie Daley came out, which also was about a teenage pregnancy and it got it just right. I spent most of that awards season saying, bitterly, "Stepanie Daley is the teen pregnancy movie that should have blown up, not motherfucking Juno."

racking up exactly zero respect for our department My former boss' job included getting buy-in from all of the company's lines of business for our projects.
Just before my time starting with the now ex-boss, she got married and invited her team of employees to the wedding. With invitations that explicitly asked for cash as a present. Something like "In lieu of housewares, please gift cash."

Crasstalk : Head Shots and Breakdowns - Life as an Actor

Please, let me know if I'm contributing to the super annoying questions list, but I am wondering two things: Do many working actors have agents? Is it worth it to sign up with an agency, or do you find that you can go to many auditions as an unsolicited (for lack of a better term) candidate? How does one get into commercials, television, or Broadway? Can you explain a bit about the painful process that you mentioned above? Like I said, don't feel obligated to answer and please tell me if these questions are out of bounds. I just find this topic fascinating.

I still use the first cell phone I ever bought from 6 years ago--a silver/grey LG clamshell style cell (with built-in camera!1!) My thinking is, the best phone to have is the one that's paid for. And is not attached to a data plan whose cost makes my stomach hurt.

I don't yet have a smartphone and while I love your posts, LCL, you have not convinced me to convert. (Maybe I'm dense, but I am not getting the difference between the tip calculator and a regular calculator?) But, yeah, unless there's an app that can turn lead into gold or water into wine, I think I'll pass.

Crasstalk : City Guide: Detroit

Lovely post, Geoffrey, and you're making me a little homesick over here! I'm from the Canadian side of the border (are we still calling it South Detroit?) but always enjoy a visit to the DIA, People's Records, and Cass Cafe. I'll definitely have to check out some of the farther out places you've suggested here (and some of the not-so-far ones--looks like I've missed out on quite a bit in the city proper). I live in Toronto now, but sometimes dream about moving back to be closer to the family, nearer to the states, and to live in an area where a decent apartment doesn't cost half your salary! And what I wouldn't give to be able to restore some of those heritage buildings in the city...sigh.

My current beliefs have been influenced by the inculcation of George Carlin and Bill Hicks. For real. If you're unfamiliar, a good place to start is with Carlin's "It's Bad For Ya" (2008) or Hicks' "Revelations" (1993).
