PostGameHeroes : Welcome Back...

Good to be back. Hey, whenever we get sick of talking Steelers football we can proceed with the full-fledged Kenyan dating service site we moonlight as. With one flip of a switch this whole site gets turned into a British/Kenyan escort service. It's a nice backup plan, no?

Kasparaitis, Straka, Jagr, Nedved, Tamer, Ulf, Zubov, who else would you like to see? I know some of these guys are still playing at various spots all over the world but it would be nice to have "everyone". Caps roster looks like garbage doesn't it?? Langway? Kelly Miller? Dino Ciccarelli? Al Iafrate?

I used to think Kemo had a ton of potential but he just hasn't lived up to my expectations. He's nice in the running game but he is abysmal in the passing game. I don't think they can afford to bench him but his play of late should have him looking over his shoulder. I've always liked Kemo and we've posted about him a zillion times on this site but lately he's making it real hard to be a Kemo-supporter.

Eddie, thanks a lot man, really appreciate it. As long as people are getting something out of this and are slightly entertained we'll keep it up. It's hard to juggle 20 different things and find time to put up interesting posts. If we had more help we'd post 10x per day, I'd love to be able to do that. Thanks for the feedback, seriously, it keeps us going.

PostGameHeroes : Dixon not likely to be blitzed on Sunday

Yes, you're right. The reason I didn't keep going into the 2nd half was because he only faced three 3rd and Long (obvious pass situations) in the 2nd half. Dixon did a fine job in the second half hitting Ward, etc....but my main focus was checking out how the defense schemed for him on semi-obvious passing downs. One of his 3rd and Longs was like a 3rd and 20.....the defense obviously dropped back to prevent a huge pass play. Cant really learn much from that so I didn't bother to add it. Another one was a sack on 3rd and 14 and the other was a scramble/broken play improv toss to Ward. It was just more of the same, so I figured it didn't need to be included. You're right though, his stats in the second half were great but he wasn't asked to complete as many 3rd and Longs (typically the true test of your QBs ability to read and make tough throws when the other team KNOWS you're passing). It's Arians/Dixons/OL/Mendenhall's job to make sure you don't put your young QB in too many obvious passing situations on 3rd down. We posted an article a few days ago about the nice balance we saw on 1st downs (Pass vs Run). That's obviously important as well....the team was only 28% on 3rd down in part due to how many 3rd and Longs they had to overcome.

PostGameHeroes : Steelers win in spite of their QB?

Haha. Totally....but what we saw from Dixon yesterday was something we've never seen from him before. Refusing to use his legs to make plays? Tossing the ball to dropping LBs. We'd never seen any signs of these issues from him. I'm a big Leftwich fan, I've always liked him....I think you get him into the lineup as soon as he is healthy enough to play. If the decision is Leftwich vs Dixon I think you go with Byron all day and all night. If you're Tomlin and you're torn between Batch and Dixon, you go with Dennis. My problem with the gameplan this past Sunday was that Dixon played the game (or was told to play the game) like he was Charlie Batch. What good is Dixon in the lineup if he can't/won't take off and run once in a while? That's the extra skill he brings to the table that will help propel the offense and convert a first down or two. If he's going to sit in the pocket all day and toss balls into the dirt, he might as well be a 38 year old guy with bad knees. He didn't play like the Dennis Dixon we saw over the past 2 years....if the Dennis Dixon we know and love shows up vs the Titans our offense will be much better off.

PostGameHeroes : You don't really want Charlie Batch to start week 1 do you?

I think you can go run, run, pass and "hide" Dixon with proper playcalling by Bruce Arians. You're only issues would be crucial 3rd and longs that need to be converted to keep drives alive. That is why Leftwich was going to be a better option for us than Dixon. Now that the competition is between Dixon and Batch I don't see Charlie as having the same arm/accuracy/ability to make throws as Lefty. If Batch isn't that big of an upgrade in 3rd down passing situations then what is he bringing to the table that Dixon isn't?

Dixon is in his 3rd year though, it's time to take off the diapers. If the staff was this down on Dennis then why didn't they bring in some camp competition for him or look to trade him? If he's not capable of winning the job right now, then he's done in Pittsburgh.

I don't see Batch as a liability, which is why I'm more torn about the issue than the article I wrote may appear. Batch won't kill you but I don't think he will do anything to help you win either. Dixon may be prone to making a mistake or two but I think he has tools that Batch doesn't that might help the team win games. Safe is death in some sports. You either go with a guy that is very limited in his ability to help you (but is safe) or you go with a guy that has the potential to win you games (who at the same time can hurt you with mistakes). Tough call for the staff. I guess it speaks volumes though that the organization thought so little of Dixon that they acquired Leftwich in the first place and took so long to give Dixon a look with the starters this preseason. If he doesn't start week 1 the message is clear: the organization doesn't think he can hack it in the NFL and it's time to add another young developmental QB in the offseason.

HAHA, thanks. You're not the only one. The guys at Steelerfury.com are giving me a hard time about my music selection. Sometimes it has to do with the video, sometimes it's completely random. I actually usually go for lighter/softer music so as not to dominate what you're seeing on the clip. I also go back and forth between posting it in slow-motion and full speed. Slow motion vids require music because the announcers voices are all messed up. Full speed videos don't really need me to insert my own audio track. Thanks for noticing my audio struggles though. :) Some will like, some will hate.
