Because I was comparing two similar nations and the term "Nordic Nations" is often used to describe the region. Since Finland is only loosely defined as Scandinavian, I didn't select that. I also didn't want to say EU nations since the issue wasn't so much that it was European as that two neighboring countries are dealing with issues of human rights, simultaneously. It was an interesting coincidence. Now that we got that issue out of the way, care to comment on the substance?

(My comment "That's...helpful" was to the individual above me, FYI.) I absolutely agree that her vocal opinion demands criticism, and agree with your assessment. It's pretty selfish. She has the right to say it (although I question her judgment as, I think, an editor of a parenting magazine) but she should be ready for rebuttal. Breastfeeding was definitely weird at first for me...I "shift". (Probably due to the fact that I was raped and was single.) But I quickly got over that for love of my baby boy. :) I wonder how her opinions extend to the entirety of her parenting, you know? Is it all just...creepiness...for her? Profoundly sad and limiting.

That's....helpful. The point is yes, our breasts are for feeding and nurturing our babies...(as well as sex, but i digress). Yet, let's allow room for choice. It's difficult to be a mommy as IS. I've known women who severely struggled with breastfeeding and, rather than tell them what I thought they needed to do, I supported them knowing I'd probably make decisions down the road they disagreed with, as well. With that said, my humble opinion is....a woman fulfilling the natural function of her body in the full-bloom of motherhood is optimally healthy and ubersexy. :) Great, great post on an interesting topic!

Really great post! re bogus racism charges: I do believe many of us have lamented the content of hip hop music and the influence on African American children. Bottom line, bad taste and poor parenting is no respecter of class or race. It's deplorable, across the board. Again, loved the post. :)

Well, I don't have an active FB account anymore, but I remember them. Google/other ad providers do the same thing on gmail, etc. It isn't *too* bothersome. I attributed the author's comments to be general pissiness/petulance as opposed to anti-semitism. I could be wrong.

Generally I'd agree, particularly given the current anti-semitic climate, but I didn't get the impression he was making that sort of flaming criticism. (i.e. "How dare they assume I'm Jewish." ) I assumed he meant, as I've often lamented, that the ads are ridiculously invasive, inferring worldview from what we've posted. He indicated that he wished he *was* Jewish because it was for summer camps and dating, but, over all was perturbed by the ad intrusion itself, rather than the content. I get a lot of "Cougar" meetup ads and I'm like, "Dude. I'm 32 and totally not desperate." ha. Overall, I thought his piece was snotty, incoherent, self-indulgent rambling and didn't take anything seriously.

Not saying we can control those thoughts nor should, perhaps modify what you actually say. Just don't expect others not to do what you aren't willing to (i.e. remark on a politician's body parts and what you'd really like to do with them then whirl around and get pissed at the left for the same thing). I agree that we're grappling with a new paradigm in American politics. What do you think our response should be toward women in positions of authority, attractive or not?

How is being critical of people saying they want to have sleep with a politician based on certain attributes only for those same people to become angered at the left for doing essentially the same some lofty moral perch? I'm addressing a frequent cry from the right of sexism (particularly against Palin) and saying, essentially, we should be the standard bearers of treatment toward women in these positions of authority. Again, it's a matter of deference to the position held. Totally not advocating a law here, either. :) I don't exactly have that power, desire, nor ideology required to push one through in the first place. Mere suggestion not unlike every other opinion piece on this site and others...only i referenced the right in mine. Explain the social engineering part, if you would. I'm not getting how my "moralizing" is any different than any one else's save different audience and language. Most of us do seek to persuade others with our writing. PS-thanks for commenting again! :)

I think it was probably a poor choice to respond but that shouldn't reflect on the quality of her character at all. She DOES need to learn to pick her battles and not get bogged down by the left's Palin Scandel du Jour. I think they know she's going to respond and love that she's distracted by their petty trifles. The more she gets embroiled in the mud slinging, the more it will define her. That's what they want. FYI not a Palin for president fan...yet. I'm a Palin as a person fan, though. :)
