"I know the wait was long, too much long, but it's about to end! You'd be able to free your iPhone in some hours." - pod2g

You should be fine, there's nothing else you can do. BB means Baseband, the part of the phone that actually makes the calls. It's also the part that is locked to a network. You cant downgrade.

Then why are you complaining? Also just for the record, Apple have never released a firmware with version number 5.01 or 5.01a.

pod2g doesn't support any form of sim unlock (due to it being illegal in France). That's why he didn't advise people on the best course of action if they want to unlock.

And I bet that if they did release it today in an unfinished form and you had problems the first thing that you would do is come here and cry to everyone about how your iPhone doesn't work any more.

Also If they did release beta tools then there would be 47 million people here all crying about how they bricked their devices or something and saying that there should have been more testing.

In those unlikely set of circumstances, yes. However Apple probably wont release 5.1 for a while yet. They might release 5.0.2 as a fix for the jailbreak in a matter of days (or not, they might not bother).
