Right after stating they got snubbed, the article goes on to say why they didn't deserve to get in. They didn't get snubbed - they didn't do enough to earn a spot. Unfortunately, they aren't that good as a team regardless of the individual talent of a couple of players. If they were to stay together another year, I would expect different results. However the lure of the NBA paycheck may be too much. The only thing I can say about the NIT is... I can't tell you one team that has won it - ever.

Not that you disagree, but that you don't get the point. The point is that cities and metropolitan areas with highly congested roads find ways of moving people into and out of their city that doesn't rely on the roads. They have subways and other forms of mass transit. And yes, they have water to deal with too (Boston, Wash DC, etc...) and still pull it off. Those that are fighting light rail proposals, are also sitting in their cars and bitching about traffic because the roads aren't sufficient to accommodate the current traffic patterns.

No, they'd fight every attempt at creating a transportation infrastructure that doesn't rely on roads so that the opposing teams (and fans) wouldn't be able to show up. Real metropolitan areas have a transportation infrastructure consisting of more than just HOV lanes on the overcrowded roads. The creation of a non road-based mass transit system between the city centers would alleviate the current situation and accommodate future transportation needs. But the NIMBY's want to fight it and complain while stuck in traffic. More visitors means more revenue. Get them here conveniently and they'll spend money.

Compare these statistical lines: G 161; AB 677; R 80; H 184; HR 5; SB 40; BA .272; OBP .310; Walks 39 G 161; AB 602; R 62; H 156; HR 1; SB 42; BA .259; OBP .340; Walks 74 One is Ichiro from last year and the other is Figgins from 2010 (only recent comparable season). Which is which doesn't matter much - both are horrible leadoff men *now*. Neither has protection behind them without a big bat in the lineup that makes pitchers change what they do. We don't have that. We have potential, while the Angels and Rangers have established strength throughout their lineup and on the mound.
