No one go to me. It's time to hear from someone else.

Paramus is in BC. It's also home to 3 of our expensive legacy schools. Fair Lawn is in BC as well.

Perhaps you can save a few bucks in SI or Queens but with NYC real estate prices lately you won't save much.

reality,

Do you send your kids to public school?

Parents at He'atid are overwhelmingly happy with the product. One unhappy parent is not surprising.

Most likely the child in question was not showing respect but thanks to modern parenting psyche the parent blames the school and/or the teacher. Their precious child couldn't possibly be doing anything wrong.

Elephant,

So what's the right neighborhood for an MO family that works in the city pulling in 150K a year whose friends and family are in the NYC metro area?

So what am I "wrong" about?

Then allow me to rephrase: Teachers who don't take on additional employment in the summer (such as working at a camp or summer school) have it easy in the summers. Even if they have to read novels at a coffee shop to prepare them for classroom discussions.

This has a lot to do with tuition since teacher salaries constitute the biggest budget item for most schools. When determining what a fair teacher salary is, we have to take into account the relatively generous work hours, especially in the summer. While I don't think we can lower teacher salaries, even in the midst of a tuition crisis (after all they need to eat and pay their mortgages), we can perhaps ask them to take on certain administrative duties or do without assistants in all classes, as a way to help reduce staff costs.

If we are really in a crisis then everyone has to sacrifice - teachers, admins, parents and even students, precious though they are.

End & HF,

You both make good points about scholarship abuse and the negativity directed at He'atid and Gershon but I think you should adjust your tones a bit. This should not be an US vs THEM type of debate. We are all in this together and we should discuss solutions as a group.

Been there,

My point is that just because we were "aware" of the problem doesn't mean we shouldn't do something about it. There are many reasons why someone may want to live in Bergen County (near work, family, friends, lots of shuls, schools, kosher restaurants, etc.) There are also things that are bad about it and we should try to change those things. You are using the same bad argument that proponents of the ridiculous blue laws use - "you knew about it when you moved here so now you have to be stuck with it forever."

We also knew about the cold winters, humid summers and mosquitos but we should do what we can to mitigate those problems.

I don't understand why anyone in Teaneck uses a furnace. After all, you KNEW that it gets cold in the winter when you moved here.
