Speaking part or not, I dislike the fact that such a main character has been turned into a common beast and forced to trudge through the world as a hairy mess of a tail-chaser, a countenance far below their heroic (if short) stature in the show.

Oh, and Spike's a dog.

For what it's worth, I think you make some excellent points about both animations. (Also, I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought the Derpy-Muffin segment was actually kind of a nice skit. Guilty pleasure? Guilty pleasure.) Thanks for linking your post!

I did not like this video, but I do recognise it as the result of a significant investment of time and work, creating something which, shorn of hype, is quite an impressively lengthy tribute piece. Anyone disagree?

Exactly. We cheer people like Pinkie Pie for researching code exploits, the Seeds of Kindness guys for creating non-pony music for charity, the top artists for their awesome work, whatever the content... Any time a pony fan does something cool or helps someone out, that's a little success for our silly but entertaining fandom.
