well, they had to auction off those seats because not enough people bought them. I don't know how successful the auction was. Bottom line is they overpriced those seats, expecting them to be bought by corporations for entertainment purposes, without taking into account current economic realties. They learned a valuable lesson in the elasticity of demand.

There is as much Mets stuff in CitiField as there was at Shea. People are just upset over the all the focus on the Robinson Rotunda.

From a payback perspective, I think it's great those seats are unused. Lower the prices to something more affordable to the working man and maybe they'll get some people in 'em. Greedy bastards!

There's a statue of Willie Mays in front of AT&T park. And I'm pretty sure there's one of Hank Aaron in Atlanta. Tom Seaver is a bona fide HOFer and if there was any dirt on him, it would have come out by now. I see no problem in putting up a statue of him in front of CitiField while he's still around to appreciate it.

Or even just one out. the one bright spot is that the Mets have been hitting the ball; unforunately, they just haven't been hitting it to where they ain't. Other than Wright, no one is really striking out with RISP.

In fairness, those posters still exist - and this time they're on the outside of the stadium (as you approach the LF entrance). However, I do agree with both you and gameball - the problem with CitiField is that the Wilpons went over-the-top with their adulation of Jackie Robinson while not doing much of anything to honor the current National League team of NY which they happen to own. When I was watching the game on Sunday, I saw they even have a giant 42 somewher around the rotunda. Why not a giant 41 or 31 as well? Heck why not a giant 14 at least? Gil Hodges was a Dodger too after all. As some other poster commented, putting up a statue of Tom Seaver in front of the rotunda - or at least near some prominent entrance would have been a nice balance. The good news is it's not too late for the Wilpons to redress this issue.

A statue of Seaver would be a great idea...along with a statue of Piazza eventually (once he gets into the HOF).

I think they're concern was that other, lesser pitchers (i.e., Joe Blough from the local beer league) might follow suit and put his signature next to Doc's. Then before you know it, you have a whole wall of graffitti in the Ebbet's Club. I like Matt's idea of having a wall or something where bona fide Mets players could put their signatures.

MetsBlog.com : Note: Close, but Inconsistent Offense

Fine - saves. So suppose the Mets lost 15 of those 29 blown saves outright. And suppose having a better bullpen would have converted just 5 of those 15 losses into wins. Neither of those are unreasonable assumptions and would produce an end result of the Mets winning the NL East pennant in '08. Do the Mets need a solid bat at the bottom of the batting order? Absolutely. But they are pretty solid in slots 1-6 and they have money to spend if necessary. I have no doubt many of our concerns will have dissapated in a month.

I am not blaming the WBC, I'm merely stating a fact. When 16 of your guys are not in ST for a couple of weeks - including the heart of the batting order - it affects the dynamic of the lineup. And you presume wrong, I love the WBC and think it's great for baseball in the 21st century.

The bullpen blew 29 games last season. The offense, regardles of how it came and in which inning, was not the problem.

You mean the same offense that was tied with the Phillies for most runs scored in the NL last season? The offense wasn't the problem the last 2 seasons, it was the pitching.

The offense isn't clicking because the Mets had 16 players in the WBC and lost valuable time in ST as a result. Now, unfortunately, they have to get in sync during the regular season. But I am optimistic that they will be back in sync by the end of April.

MetsBlog.com : Read: Players are Adjusting to Citi Field

I agree - as Tom Seaver said on Monday night, CitiField is not a stadium, it's a ballpark. Athletes come there to play baseball and nothing else. I love the open spaces of CitiField. You can walk around the corridors on your way to the restroom or food courts and still see much of the game. It reminds me a lot of AT&T park in San Francisco. As for not reminding them about the Mets, what about Shea Stadium ever reminded anybody about the Mets? The large posters of the Mets players? CitiField has that. The retired numbers on the LF wall? Ditto CitiField. The only thing that seems to be missing are the various pennants - or perhaps I just haven't found them yet.

Funny, I was reading reports earlier how Manny Acta was impressed with Milledge's improved defensive skills. I guess they came at the cost of his bat. Talk about a kid who can't get out of his own way.

Watching Livan pitch you can definitely tell he is related to El Duque. That curve of his is his version of El Duque's patented epheus pitch. He looks like he'll be a great 5th starter and a nice placeholder until Niese is ready. Kudos to Omar for the get.

MetsBlog.com : News: The Marlon Anderson Era is Over

Plus Castillo is owed far more than Marlon. I hope fans give Luis a chance when he plays at Citi. I remember in 2006 when Jose Valentin was off to a slow start and he got booed a lot at Shea. Then he turned it around and everybody loved him. But as Luis was booed during the exhibition games with the Red Sox, I suspect he will be presumed guilty until proven innocent by most of the fans.
