To believe what Pelosi had to say about her briefings you would have to believe that she doesn't have a shred of common sense as well as any other detectable intelligence. Unfortunately, I don't find that hard to believe about her and she is only two heartbeats from the presidency. If that's not cause for concern, I don't know what is.
I could care less what Mass. does with its tax dollars. Any state that continually elects Ted Kennedy is out of it's collective mind anyway. I just hope the fruits and nuts stay in Mass. BLESS THEIR HEARTS.

Of course the government will still be able to play around with the taxes just like states do; but their meddling will be much more transparent. Instead of hidden in 60,000 pages of tax code they will have to propose specific increases and win support for them from both houses of congress and the president. No system is perfect but any system that gets rid of the IRS and takes the tax code weapon away from the feds is favorable in my book. Go here

Festus you have to know that our government would never allow you to have your own paycheck before taxes as long as they have the right to tax income. Why not just change the system. Under the Fair Tax the government no longer has the right to tax income so, minus any state income taxes you may have to pay, you will get your entire paycheck. If you save some, it won't be taxed; and their won't be any death taxes either. You only pay taxes as you consume goods. Nothing could be simpler. The tax code disappears and the IRS becomes a memory.
I agree that any taxing system is subject to corruption but I'm in favor of removing control of taxation from Washington's hands as much as possible and the Fair Tax does that. If implemented as proposed, the Fair Tax takes the control of our paychecks out of the hands of the government. It took me a while to figure that out but I think it's a beautiful thing. Businesses not being taxed and the fact that everyone pays it, even tourists, are reason enough for the Fair Tax. Plus there's the fact that your savings and investments won't be taxed anymore. When you talk about economic stimulus the Fair Tax is the answer.

Martial-arts master Chuck Norris has his sights set on becoming more than a Texas Ranger - he has volunteered to run as the state's first president.
Norris, who played TV hardman Cordell Walker in hit series Walker, Texas Ranger, has put himself up for the job of running the region after discussing the possibility of the state seceding from U.S. control during a rant on CNN.com's political blog.
The actor, who is a staunch Republican, insists Texans want an independent state after being let down by the American government - and thinks he'd be the ideal candidate to lead the Lone Star state's revolution.
He says, "I may run for president of Texas. That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.
"Anyone who has been around Texas for any length of time knows exactly what we'd do if the going got rough in America."

I agree with you J. Being a middle aged man myself, it's hard for me to see the complacency that has come over many Americans in my age range. The fact that The Big O is playing kissy face with the communists and socialists could be just the type of thing we need to wake older America up. It's beyond my comprehension how many around my age either sit idly on the sidelines or, worse yet, are head over heels for BO. I remain hopeful that this will change and I think our recent TEA parties and this website are positive steps in that direction.
