Pink Raygun.com : The Dawn Treader Sets Sail without Me

I;m with you -- I think that it's much better to let the kids be exposed to what we find objectionable and then discuss it with them and, most importantly, allow them to forn their own opinions. It's interesting, though, to see your mom have the opposite view than what I'm used to seeing -- that is, her being someone who didn't allow you to read the book because she was afraid of exposing you to religious brainwashing, rather than her disallowing it because she was, like some of my family with their kids, trying to brainwash you and was afraid of certain books undoing that .... For myself, not having a religious upbringing (mom's an atheist, dad's agnostic, I'm pagan), I did not really get any religious vibe while reading the two volumes I did, although I knew it was *supposed* to be there before I started reading. What really baffled me was the fact that Mr Tumnus, who, being a pan/satyr, was "demonic" in appearance, was a ultimately depicted as a *good guy* in a supposedly Christian work ....

Pink Raygun.com : Disney's Tangled Deserves Your Love

@Dawn Ah yes, the frying pan! Coincidentally, in my first novel I had a scenario where the hero (the one Flynn looks a bit like) walked in on the heroine, accidetally surprising her, and she clobbered him with a frying pan ... @Beth -- I considered the weight of the hair issue too but decided that it's healing properties/the fact that it was magical probably took care of that. You're probably right about Rapunzel looking enough like her mother for them to see the resemblance, I should have considered that. Heck, maybe she looks like her mother at that age! As for Flynn ... yeah, he's not the first animated character I've had a crush on, not by a longshot, LOL! I even had a crush on Raphael the Ninja Turtle ....

Pink Raygun.com : Is Joss Whedon Really a Hack?

(cont) I will agree that Dushku is the weakest link, but for me, even she is getting better over time, especially with the latest ep. And even when she's not-so-much, I've found plenty to enjoy around her, especially with Topher & Adelle. They, especially Topher, are why I stuck with it when it wasn't all that great (well, them and the Ballard/Mellie thing, while it lasted), and they continue to enthrall me now. And Enver Gjokaj is a fantastic actor -- his impersonation of Topher was amazing! Dushku's actying aside, the overall story is getting fantastically dimesnional and mind-blowing; I think the plots are getting even better than the best of Angel! Dollhouse is one of those iinstances where the "important" character isn't really the lead, she's the plot device, the robot Marie, the focal point through which everyone else's character is developed by their reactions to her. She's just the eye of the storm; the hurricane itself is where the action and interest is.

Interesting. I can see why you feel as you do. For me, I thought the show did get significantly better mid-last season, with Man on the Street and Echoes,/ I think it's *awesome* now, this season is rocking my world! So many awesome twists, so many bits of seemingly throw-away dialogue turning out to be significant foreshadowing, some great scene and character parallelism. (to be cont because he box is telling me my message is too long)

Sorry for the delayed response -- I don't get notifications for replies, and stopped checking after a while. To answer your q, no, I don't have anything against interracial couples. It;s just that I am a long-time, die-hard fan of Scarlett/Snake-Eyes and had waited a very long time for a live-action movie, eager to see their love play out on the big screen, only to find one of my all-time fave pairings turned into a "sibling" relationship. :/ I thought I made it abundantly clear that I am a rabid Snake/Scarlett shipper in the article, though. And by the way? While Snake is white in the comics, here, he's Japanese -- just like Ripcord was white in the comics but black here. I still want Scarlett with Snake, regardless of his ethinicity in the film, so how could you think I have a problem with interracial couples if I still want the film version of Scarlett to be a guy who *also* happens to be a person of colour? *scratches head* Espeically since I also asked why they didn't pair Ripcord up with Cover Girl instead?

Pink Raygun.com : My Vagina Killed Your Jetpack

That's funny -- I was under the impression that it was much, much cooler to be a nerd today than it was when *I* was a kid. Plus I know a fair number of people in the scientific fields today. And it seems like we're launching a shuttle down here in Florida once every few weeks, as opposed to just a few times a year, like when I was growing up. It was the Challenger explosion that put back space exploration, near as I can tell, and we've gotten past it -- the more recent shuttle disaster barely phased Nasa, it seems. The arguements I'm hearing against space exploration are coming form adults who se it as a waste of their money, not kids and teens who grew up exposed to slash (unless they were among the quasi-underground who were writing Kirk/Spock, and I haven't heard any such friends of mine suggest we should stop exploring space -- quite the opposite!) . So where the heck is Spearhead getting the impression that science is even suffering in the first place? XD

GeekTyrant : Disneylands STAR TOURS II Ride Trailer!

"C3PO and R2-D2 are still the hosts" --?? You mean the Disneyland ride was already significantly different from the Disney World ride? Out here, Threepio and Artoo are out in the queue, quarrelling, but it's a novice robot pilot voiced by Paul Ruebens who is your "host" on the ride itself. If that's not the case in Disneyland, curse them for changing it before I could get a chance to see their version! XD And I'm with Mary: having it on Tatooine/prequel-like is dissappointing, as I prefer it in space/original trilogy-like. :(

Tell me about it! Very upset at this loss, and of Mrs Slocumbe as well. ;_; There will always be a soft spot in my heart for Ferris Bueller (I think I love it as much as Star Wars!) and the first Home Alone (he wrote & produced that). But of course I love other films he's had a hand in as well, particularly the Breakfast Club & the Vacation movies ....

*Brilliant!* And soooooo true! "I say what I mean and say it concisely." I did this to someone near the top of the food chain ( think he may actually have been the vice pres) of the bookstore chain I worked for, pointed out all the problems with every new shiny policy he laid before us, as well as with the policies that had already been put into play -- basically, I beat him over the head with logic and experience, and didn't pull any punches. He *quit* the next day. I like to think I played a part in driving him to it. :D

I do actually like Max Alan Collins myself. I don't blame him for the debacle -- he was just working with what he was given. But yeah, that's how I feel -- why not make something entirely new if what they've made is going to bear so little resemblence to the original anyway? Or, if they want to bank on the name, why change it so very much? Especially something with a following as huge as Snake/Scarlett? Cover Girl is in the story; why not pair *her* off with Ripcord?

GeekTyrant : DEADPOOL Spin-Off Movie is a Go

Basically, I'm prepared for the worst but hoping for the best. Reynolds could really make a movie version of 'Pool great, if FOX doesn't throw too many wrenches into the works. Personally, while I like Nicieza a lot, I would really love to see *Joe Kelly* write the screenplay -- his was the best run on 'Pool, IMNSHO. I'm guessing that some of his powers will be lost, save for the healing and maybe the teleporting. Not sure how I feel boutthe latter -- his teleporting was technology-driven in the comics, and it caused him problems now and then, making for a more interesting story. Well, I suppose he could still have problems with it, even as a power. Movieverse Spidey still had webbing issues, after all, even though they were a part of his bucket o' powers rather than an invention, like in the comics .... I suppose it's too much to hope Siren, Weasel and Blind Al will be in the movie.

GeekTyrant : Taylor Kitsch Talks about what he wants to see in a GAMBIT Spin-off Film

@mr nice guy ~ Bow? Do you mean his staff? It wasn't a pink ball, it was a white "diamond" that lit up pink with his power, same as the playing cards. And in case you didn't notice, *no one*, in *any* of the films, had their signature costume, save maybe for Magneto's being somewhat close. Besides, Gambit's "signature look" in the comics is a trenchcoat , not a jacket. And he had a trenchcoat in the movie, it just happened to be black instead of brown. What he was missing was the hot pink body armour (and if you hated the pink ball, you should *really* hate the body-armour), his black spandex with the pink stripes, and his metal boots. But for me, the purple silk shirt and the black vest worked quite nicely, epecially with the black trenchcoat. ;)
