Well said. I agree. My fear is that we think it is all fine. Sorry I couldn't reply directly. It won't let me. For some reason I can't with the Mac I have on this site.

The mayor is doing nothing different from what our Congress does. Voting themselves salaries in the wee morning hours. What doesn't make sense is the mayor's spokesperson's comment that "the mayor doesn't think an independent citizen commision should have the authority to determine salaries for the mayor and city councilors IN THESE TOUGH TIMES." It would be ok if the times were prosperous? Afraid CITIZENS would try to cut back on or freeze salaries to show budgetary responsibility? They are a power unto themselves and we have allowed this at the ballot box. And it seems we are going to lose that option also.

KRQE News 13 : Mind researchers, UNM renew partnership

A great place despite the Pete and Nancy Domenici name at the North side of the building which has a decided slant downward. Walk by it every day. Doing some groundbreaking work. Interesting to see this story showing up now. As one PhD/MD once told me, what we know about the brain is like a piano tuner attempting to tune the piano with a sledge hammer. We are at the beginnings of the frontier. May they do well and prosper.

Will try again. The number of laws and regulations passed each year is staggering. We write up laws and ordinances for every pet peeve we have. We regulate everyone with weeds, house numbers, signs, cameras, checkpoints and more. Very few laws are ever taken off the books. It has been said that there are two things to fear: those that want to control everything and those that don't. Seems that we have more who want to control everything. We will no longer be a nation of laws. We will be a nation of LAWYERS.

One more law and regulation. As someone has said, there are two types of people to fear: those who want to control and regulate everything and those who don't.
You can try to email them at the address they give. Call the stores for more info, but I was told it was by cash, check or cc in the store themselves. That way you get the ticket and proper receipt showing address etc. in case they have to refund your money.

NY Times, June 1, 2009 Solomon Moore, "Despite Bleak Economy, Crime Numbers Take Positive Turn." Unlike what we have heard from our politicians and APD, the economy rarely affects the national crime rate. Those who commit crimes are tangential to the economy already. "Crime experts said there was no historical correlation between tough economic times and crime...the big shifts in crime trends have more to do with POLICING STRATEGIES and the ebb and flow of illegal substances..." Can we not think that giving everyone a certain income level will solve this.

4th paragraph from the bottom. Nadine Hamby of APD statement implies the possibility of the economy being the cause for the increase of burglaries. Interesting notion that your morals are tied to the economy. That the only work one can turn to in a bad economy is crime. That there aren't other options. That when you have a bad month or two, or get behind in your bills, you just go out and rob a house or two. The mantra of the government: It is the economy. Health care, education, morals (in this case) are all tied to costs and money. All will be cured with money. Would also stand to reason, therefore, that people with good economic demographics and personal wealth and power would not turn to crime. Spoken to a politician lately?

Chewing through what you said and not sure I understand the sentence structure and word usage/choice.
Great. This means that I can look forward to an increased surcharge of some sort on my phone or cable bill. My phone bill now is made up of lines and lines of added Federal and State taxes and charges for one thing or the other. They comprise 50% of my phone bill and the Federal Access Charge just went up again. Keep up the taxes and surcharges. George Washington was slowly bled to death by his physician. The government is slowly bleeding me to death.

"The reconstruction of the nearby San Mateo interchange....has hurt business, ACCORDING TO THE MERCHANTS." Why listen to them. The stimulus monies were for this exact purpose. It had nothing to do with jobs for small merchants. It was for government and its infrastructure. Quit whining that the government plans for employment of government workers to oversee these projects is hurting you. You are only citizens. I, on the other hand, am from the government and here to help you. The arrogance of the projects and disregard for the inconveniences and bankruptcies created are a small price to pay if our government can get around town easier and create a bureaucracy to oversee the projects.

Don't tell me they have driven the I-40/San Mateo street construction gauntlet. Or maybe they have tried to shop in that area. Or maybe they know some of the merchants impacted. Or maybe they just read all the stories on the economic impact it had on the businesses.
Anyone know if this would mean an approximate 30-31% tax burden (Federal and State) depending on your present income and filing status? $58,000 Federal and $14,000 State= $72,000+. Could take out a mortgage on that amount to pay the taxes. Rent. Sell. Capital gains. All of the taxes has sunk many of the house raffling schemes. Great idea if it were $240,000 in cash as it would come out before you got the money. And how was the appraisal done. Homes in the area seem to be in the high 100,000 range. Tempting to give it a flyer.
