I anticipate a fatwah, but I must say this trailer nearly exceeds my tolerance level for dwarf slapstick. Hope it's not overdone. Guess I'll find out when I go see it on opening day...

Big Hollywood : Morning Call Sheet: Weak Box Office, Vilanch Finally Out, and a John Wayne Marathon

Two things about Apocalypto: I seem to be the only person I know of who caught the "severed head POV" shot. Nobody I've mentioned it to has known what I was talking about. I need to watch again to confirm, but one of the beheadings takes place in POV, and we see the world spinning around for a few seconds after the axe falls, as if through the eyes of the head bouncing down the steps...very subtly done, I thought. Of course it might be the most obvious thing in the world, I dunno. And when the baby was born in the water, my son, who was 13 at the time, said, "I didn't think they would go there." A nice bit of understatement, that.

Big Hollywood : Entertainment Weekly Peddles False Narratives on Terrorism, Hollywood Racism

Ridiculous. After 9/11, TV shows including "24" bent over backwards to avoid depicting only Muslims as terrorists, to the extent that they had the courage to depict them at all. Weren't the first Muslims visible on the show, innocent bystanders in a shootout between CTU operatives and non-Muslim terrorists, as well as other innocents depicted as falsely suspected simply due to their culture? How many seasons in before they permitted themselves a Muslim terrorist plotline?

Big Hollywood : 'Terra Nova' Review: Go Back In Time to the Dawn of Lame Clichés

The Sixers -- refugees from the same place as the TN's -- suddenly decided they didn't like life in TN and went and got their own place. Then they started lobbing bombs and sending infiltrators into TN. Jurassic Israel, anyone? When we're expected to identify with the first Sixer suicide bomber, don't say you weren't warned. Sucker punch in waiting...

Big Government : Despite Claims, Audio Shows NC Gov's ‘Suspend Election’ Comment Not a Joke

Just like the earnest "truth-o-meter" things the liberal newspapers trot out at election time to prop up their lying agenda, we need a scorecard for whether libs are joking. Suspending elections? Just a gag, lighten up! Confiscating wealth in order to prop up job creation? Totally serious, man.

Wow, thanks for an interesting insight into the situation. So Crowder's manager having broken down the trust level between producer and agent -- is he likely to suffer because of this? Seems like he kind of screwed the pooch, industry-wise. I mean, I too am glad to know about the naked ideological prejudice in hiring, but now this manager is going to have a whistle-blower rep, isn't he? Or at least loose cannon...

This does not surprise me in the least. I used to take part in an email chat list that was populated largely by liberals. They were so consumed with their sense of who's "up" that no shred of decency would be permitted to invade any issue. If you screwed up, you heard about it for the rest of your life, even if you'd tried to make it right. If they screwed up, SCREW YOU.

Big Hollywood : Kathy Griffin Plays 'Tea Partier' as Birther on 'Glee'

I decided to watch despite Kathy Griffin, as I watch every week for the musical content. Warblers were great as usual, even the obvious attempt to grab more Beatles' glory with Kurt's sensitive yet funny "Blackbird." (Singing for a canary? Really?) New Directions was so-so. Vocal Adrenaline's pandering to the Tea Partier would have been funnier if the Tea Partier had been portrayed as a recognizable human being. The number came off as a wink to people who know Christians and Tea Partiers, but Griffin's one-note act utterly spoiled the gag. Speaking of "gag," that's what Griffin evokes in me. The saddest part was Griffin's unspoken attempt to do a Sarah Palin thing with the red dress and big hair. She only managed to look like a desperate old hag in a red doggie bag.

The original movie is certainly wonderful, and was an eye-opener for the child that I was when I saw it, but it also did many disservices to the book, which I reread with awe every year or so. Any movie that aims to better serve the book has my vote.

The play was done at a couple community theatres recently, except under the title "12 Angry Jurors." I guess if you can't get 12 men to do the show, or even if you just can't imagine casting an all-male cast in something -- why stupidify the title like that? A bit on the nose, I think. Call it almost anything else with 12 and Angry in it! "12 Angry People" would be more effective. "12 Angry Jurors" makes me want to nod and say, "Uh, yeah, so?"
