I pray for the family of Suzanne Hopper; she died in a job that helps protect us all. I hope that her children will remember that their mother was a hero. My father was a police officer in Fort Wayne and was shot at with a shotgun once. I remember the worry I felt every day he went to work. I don't think people realize the danger our police officers put themselves in every day. The hurt will linger forever, but without people like Suzanne the world would be much worse off. Evil is everywhere and we can only hope and pray that good people like Suzanne will keep us safe. May God bless you Suzanne and may God protect your family.

Maybe the judges should be required to live in that neighborhood.

We have been programmed by the media to always assume the worst. Every story dealing with an unexplained death, car crash, or assault, comes with the stipulation that alcohol is suspected or we are awaiting toxicology reports. After a while we just assume the worst and that is a sign of how cynical our society has become.
No one wins, the family suffers anguish at the loss of a loved one while dealing with the perception of the "people" that their loved one was at fault when nothing could be further from the truth.
The sad fact is that they lost a loved one, a child, sister, friend, and the reason doesn't matter as much as their grief over losing her. They need comfort, not strangers questioning attitudes or theories.
We should all grieve at the loss of an intelligent, caring, indivdual, who was just beginning her journey into adulthood.

Ahh ... the dangers of smoking cigarettes. Why carry cash in an envelope? The thief probably saw him take money out to buy the cigarettes and followed him out to the parking lot. You just have to keep your wits and be observant of everyone and everything around you. Thieves look for the easy prey and will go for the old, weak, and non-observant. Too bad he didn't have a gun in the envelope.

You are correct in that there is no statute of limitations for murder. However if a guilty person was acquitted of murder during a trial and new technology shows that the person was indeed guilty there is nothing that can be done because of double jeopardy laws. WIth all the new DNA and forensic tests you can bet a lot of murderers that got off scott free would be convicted today. Same can be said for the innocent that were wrongly convicted and sometimes executed.

The sad thing is that this creep thought he got away with it for all this time. Who knows if he ever killed someone else. With all the unsolved murders in this country it makes me wonder how many people I pass on the street have killed someone and gotten away with it.

Do they actually teach ethics in Law school or are the Law schools just a front for teaching intelligent criminals? Politicians are nothing more than degreed con men. The Lawyer/Politicians make muggers look like honest folks. The mugger is at least being honest when he points a gun at you and demands your money. The politicians and lawyers smile and pat you on the back with one hand while stealing your wallet with the other and feeding you a pack of lies while they do it. Guess I'm feeling cynical today. Such is life!

Here's an idea ... since the Chinese are flooding the world with counterfeit goods why don't we start paying the Chinese with counterfeit money?

Something isn't right about this story. The bond is set very low for someone accused of this type of heinous crime. For someone facing life in prison the bond should be set over $100,000 at a minimum.

I agree with all of the above comments in that in this day and age you have to be less trusting and very careful about who you let in your car.
