Macleans.ca : Rethinking motherhood: the third act

It's relative, I suspect. Where you grew up and raised your family, your 'station' in life. I, like you, left home in my teens and made a life for myself. I've raised my family too. In some areas however, jobs are scarce and a person's ability to set themselves up and survive on their own may be limited. I would not look down on today's youth because they still live with their parents. And in most cases it's really just a matter of a new address for the young person - the family structure is vital to all and maintained for the benefit of all. We're not as isolated in ourselves as some would have us believe.

Macleans.ca : Coyne on Parliament's bickering, heckling, whining MPs

A breath of fresh air. I totally agree that ALL MPs should have actual roles to play in parliament, instead we have the majority of them acting like trained seals with little else to do..

I'm with you on this. Coming from the prairies I was astounded to hear that Tim Horton's was a "Canadian Icon" when they started a franchise in Afganistan with tax payers money. As Canadian as the maple leaf? Not to me or anyone I know. That's not to say they're not everywhere you look these days - there's practically one on every block downtown. ____This whole thing is marketing and profit margins. You can get rich owning a Tim Horton's franchise, but that's not good enough - you have to be able to get stinking rich I guess. Squeeze every last penny out of the rubes, they'll eat/drink anything. But pretend it's 'always fresh'. Where I come from fresh doesn't mean previously frozen.

If the Pakistan gov't doesn't need our help then they won't ask for it. Some of the Imams are saying they shouldn't take any foreign aid either. My heart breaks for the people of Pakistan in their hour of need.

Macleans.ca : If we’re cutting useless things in Ottawa

Tom Flanagan said on CBC's Power & Politics today that the gov't is probably ramping up spending in the Communications budget because an election is coming some time down the road and the gov't wants to be sure to get it's message out. So, that means that the Conservative Reform Alliance Party of Canada is spending my tax dollars for electioneering purposes instead of on sound policies? And at the same time they're trying to cut the stipend given to the other parties so that they can't realistically compete in getting THEIR message out next election? We know that Harper won't force an election until his latest fiascoes are behind him a bit and he pushs through his election reform package. I think the Liberals and the NDP need to defeat this loser as soon as the gov't returns this fall and put and end to this garbage. I never thought I would live long enough to see this kind of fascism in Canada. My father and grandfather, who both fought for our freedoms in WW1 & WW2 would be rolling in their grave if they knew. Hopefully they'll haunt Harper's dreams every night!

I agree with you, aside from the Winnipeg Free Press part. The FP has never seen a news release it didn't like. Saves having to work for it. It doesn't really make a difference that they're usually NDP news releases - when the Conservatives were in power they did the same thing. Usually though, they just reprint day old G&M stories and try to pass that off as current. No real journalism about issues that are important to Winnipegers and Manitobans allowed. For that we have to go to the alternative media. They've down-sized their press stable the last few years. Anyone without years of tenure was let go, only fools like Doug Speirs and Gordon Sinclair Jr are safe in their jobs. That included most of the young journalists that appealed to a more non-Boomer audience. That's because the FP has decided that entertainment news is what sells.

Macleans.ca : Women with big hips have worse memory: study

Interesting that they pick on post-menopausal women, you know 50ish and up. Oh wait, they chose a group of very post-menopausal women - ages 65-79. Yeah, granny was expected to be just as sharp as her 20 year old grand-daughter, so it came as such a shock to us! It's always the estrogen ladies! But don't take hormone replacement 'cause that could kill you! I bet the study could be a lot more generalized. How about overweight and obese people in general, regardless of sex or age? Hard to concentrate when you're hungry all the time. Studies like this really tick me off! Oh wait, maybe I should apply for gov't grant money to take this study to the next level! After all, it's possible that it's just Chicago women. Or just American women. Or North Americans in general. I would think that if you're 40-50 years out of school the old memory might slip a bit, but obviously that's not the case. It's how wide your hips are, is all. Maybe I could study European women to see if there's any correlation with this study! Grant money for a year or two in Paris would be just the thing! Pathetic!

Voters and the media will never tire of the 'fun', she tends to provide it on a regular basis. I think you should be careful of what you wish for, Sarah Palin isn't the answer. She's way to divisive and has shown she will say or do anything to slag her opponents. She's not the rational adult you claim she is.
