Think back further brain surgeon. You think WWE just decided to be a company and sold out Madison Square Garden at the first event? Yeah, they started in that territory but they had small cards like every other up-and-coming promotion and GREW in that territory until they COULD sell out MSG. Then Vince expanded across other territories...

You may take wrestling a bit too serious if you think any of this has to do with "earning it". It's a business. The belts are used to enhance a character. A prop to get more fans thus get more shirts and fill more seats.
