You have my support and understanding. I’m sorry that the comments were so harsh, and I agree with you. It’s a tough situation, and I think that it’s best for you to try to handle it in other ways…assign each bridesmaid a task to do. They do need to pull their weight. If this doesn’t work, maybe you can talk to the bride’s mom and explain how hard the situation has been on you. See if she can talk to the bridesmaids.

I must say that after reading these responses, I need to change my answer a little bit. I DON'T think that she should make a big deal of it. I DO think she should explain to the other bridesmaids that they need to start pulling more weight, for her own peace of mind. The bride's wedding day is all about her, and not all recognition is immediate and obvious. Thanks, Jennifer and jcruz!

I can see your point. If you don't keep the comments to-the-point, then you will be stuck saying 'hi' to everyone throughout the party. If there are over 100 guests, then yes, I would agree and say that the receiving line is the best way to greet everyone.

Laura, I would say that if the dress is fairly simple (few embellishments) then the bolero/cape would look ok. Stick to a very elegant, non-bulky option, such as a short lace bolero like this one: http://www.partypop.com/Forums/Wedding_Dresses/m3...
That way you're not really covering up your beautiful shoulders and mermaid silhouette. I would love to see a picture of your wedding dress! :)
