Is there the possibility there are two wrongs here? The young man had obviously made some poor decisions. But, what do you know about the officer? Anything? Let's think it through (new concept). If he were desperate or intent to kill himself or somebody else, what would you expect to see? 1) Trying to elude the police and not pulling into a bank parking lot? a) He could have used this as a method of suicide. b) He could have used this as an opportunity to ditch the guns. 2) Jumping out of the car and opening fire immediately? 3) During the time it took to pull over, positioning a weapon to "ambush" the officer? All of you judgemental people make me VERY sad. To say he deserved to die etc. etc. is DISGUSTING!!!! Turn on TV, go to an AA or NA meeting and see how many actual stories exist of people truly turning their lives around. Some after prison, some before, some with histories of violent crimes. It is very easy to say that if many of you judgementals had been caught for every illegal thing you've done over the course of your life, maybe the others here would be cheering your death too.

Yes, and as soon as people started speculating about a particular officer in Poulsbo everybody on the street believes may have been involved - they shut the Kitsap Sun forum down. Over 300 posts, many VERY disparaging to the young man who was shot. BUT, as soon as citizens began to tell the truth about their fist-hand experiences with a Poulsbo officer in the past that led them to believe he was involved, the forum is shut down. Hmmmmmmm..............

BREAKING NEWS - As soon as people from Poulsbo started showing up on the Kitsap Sun's forum and discussing a problem officer in Poulsbo, they shut the forum down. Another loss to free-speech!

If two people approached you on the street and asked you to give them 40% of your income so they could equip themselves to follow you around, financially penalize you for things they don't like and possibly shoot you, what would you tell them?

PART 3 Can you see how effective the spokesperson was? 64 words in two paragraphs completely led you to draw the conclusions they wanted you to. This is the data they should have withheld for a fair and factual investigation - not the name of the officer. Now everybody on a possible jury who has read this is tainted. Except, it probably won't be a jury who decides what happened. It will be the "brothers and sisters" of the officer. Those that share the job with them and empathize with the struggles of an officer's duties. Next time you get stopped by the police, ask them if your family can get together and decide if you're guilty or not.

PART 2 So, many of you are taking a tiny article with no factual data and jumping to wild conclusions, degrading insinuations and intolerance/insensitivity. This makes you worse than a gun-toting drunk in my opinion (but not quite as bad as a power-driven egomaniac with false authority toting a gun). They are protecting the identity of the officer for the sake of the investigation? This is where YOU HAVE TO STOP AND THINK. What is the most important aspect of a fair investigation? The information and events surrounding the incident.........right? How does the officer's name blur the truth or not? It doesn't! Read the article again carefully. The police spokesperson had NO PROBLEM planting a version of the officers story in the paper - unproven ideas about the event from somebody who just killed a human being. It worked so well on some of the people here, I can't believe it. You think the following: 1) The man was drunk 2) He had a gun 3) He reached for the gun 4) The officer responded correctly 5) The man "deserved" to die

PART 1 Sometimes I wonder how the government and its officials get away with the crimes they commit against us. After reading this entire thread, I am no longer as mystified as I was. There are two choices: 1) The officer or public was in immediate danger and the officer reacted appropriately. 2) The officer reacted inappropriately and shot somebody without just cause. Things we don't know: 1) The man was driving drunk. 2) The man was not driving drunk. 1) The man reached for a weapon. 2) The man did not reach for a weapon.

The DUI dragnets are a great income generator since our Federal tax dollars went to corporate bankers and the state and cities have no more sales tax revenue since 2 out of 10 people are unemployed. Since it is US that is paying for these police activities, I believe we have an immediate right to know who the officer is. The suppression of that information is shameful! I have a good guess as to who the officer is. He has behaved in a way around our community where I actually told somebody it is a matter of time before we hear he has shot somebody. To be fair (until the media ban is over), the circumstances may have justified it. We'll see.
