Daily Camera.com: : Boulder Valley teachers upset over handling of Obama speech - Boulder Daily Camera

I am a past Teacher, Elementary Principal, College Dean and School Board Member. I am now retired. I am amazed, yet not surprised that the parents have not been included in the discussion concerning the Obama Speech. Public education should include all factions involved in a child's education. I did not read one sentence that included the parents involvement in the decision making process. They were allowed to remove their kids from seeing the speech, but had no say in weather the speech was shown at all. People, it's public education, meaning parents have a right in what is taught in the schools. Teachers and administrators, you don't choose what controversial issues should be taught. These are not your kids, and not your taxes that pay the bills. Even the taxes taken out of your paychecks are already taxed dollars. You are missing the point. Involve the parents. What makes you think you are so important in making decisions for my children. You're not.
