KOMO - Seattle, WA : Task force: Seek private money for Wash. higher ed | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News |

"Best qualified" is an extraordinarily ambiguous term, you see. For example, should it be the richest, most educated and most intelligent that get to enter higher education? Or might it be more useful for the poorest, least intelligent population? Perhaps a balance?

You seem to be missing the fact that Washington state has no income tax, and you also seem to think we have a huge population of people making over $50 million a year who would then be willing to donate that much to charity? Your plan is troubled on many fronts.

OK, most of you don't like the Governor. I'm not shocked, and I also don't really care. You didn't like the spending increases passed by the legislature. Again, not shocked. Whats shocking to me is how none of you seem to grasp the larger picture. Contrary to popular belief, the majority of those spending increases went to social justice problems like food, healthcare, education, and living expenses. We live in a capitalist society which tends to favor the rich, and - believe it or not - politicians like to solve some of those problems. Do they do it to 'buy votes' and save their own asses? Absolutely. Does that mean we should stop talking about the social justice problems because politicians can be icky? No. Our entire tax system in Washington State, and thus our social justice problems, hing on the sales tax collected from however many toothbrushes and cars we buy. As shown from the proposed cuts outlined in this article, peoples ability to get food to eat every day hinges on whether you decide to buy a toothbrush this year or not. That's the broken system we should be talking about.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : King Co. Metro to raise transit fares in January | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News | KO

If you are lucky and can get a monthly garage, you might pay as low as $12/day for your spot. With metro, you pay $2.50 into the city and $2.50 out (starting Jan). $5/day. So with transit, you spend less than half what you do on parking. Thats not including the cost of buying, maintaining, and fueling a vehicle. Metro continues to be substantially cheaper.

What a weird comment. Is your statement that 'there is more to football than screaming fans'? Thank you Sherlock Holmes. You might have done better if you had kept to that 19 word limit you spoke about. I cant tell if you wrote in just to take a jab at young people or what. Edit: having just realized you have many more bizarre comments in this story, I'm getting a better picture of your commenting style.

Its also news because the school was unwilling to disclose how much they spent on her, which is illegal. Students had to sleuth for the information in the trash (literally) as the article outlines.

Public universities cant hide financial statements. The university was unwilling to disclose them, which is illegal, thus the attorney general is obligated to intervene. The issue taken up by the Attorney General is not Sarah Palin. Students shouldnt have had to dig through the trash to get that information, and the school would be in violation of the law if they failed to disclose it.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Leno says he was asked to leave \'Tonight\' show | KOMO News - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and We

I'm not sure this encompasses the complexity of the issue. The thing about Tonight Show hosts are that it takes time. It took Leno 2 years for the audience to get use to him, it took Conan (Late Night), Letterman, Johnny, everyone awhile to become a nightly routine in peoples lives. When you replace that routine after 16 years (or even 1 year), it will take time for people to adopt to the new host. Conan improved at a faster pace than Leno did when he started Tonight, in fact. The problem is that people no longer had to watch The Tonight Show because they got Leno at 10, so there was no need to give the new host a chance. In effect, there were now dueling Tonight Show hosts still on the air, dividing audiences. Leno should have given Conan a year, but he wanted to stay relevant on TV, and this is the result.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Are Leno and O\'Brien turning on each other? | KOMO News - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Weathe

I would not imagine they are in any kind of debt at all. Leno was making around $30 million a year, and Conan has never been known to spend a lot of money.

err. The article and study we are commenting on directly contradicts your claim, and I think jwgl23 is pointing that out. The study indicates a direct correlation between when Leno started at 10 and when ratings in major areas fell by as much as 48% (NYC). While you are correct that people are watching less "TV" (actually, they are not: they are just watching TV programming online), that does not account for the giant loss in viewership for late local news.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Murray accused of being \'off her meds\' in tanker fight | KOMO News - Breaking News, Sports, Traffi

.........yeah. For every federal tax dollar south carolina pays to the US Gov, they get $1.35 back. Why? Because their state economy sucks. Washington State pays $1, and gets $.88 back. Why? $0.12 goes to helping states like SC who cant sustain themselves. And thats just the way federal tax dollars are handled in the state. Don't make accusations about taxes when you actually don't know what youre talking about.
