Big Hollywood : My Sing-a-Long with Davy Jones

Thanks for the interesting info. I never assumed any of the Monkees wrote any of their greatest hits, but I didn't know about John Stewart. I'm frequently surprised when I discover who wrote what - it's like playing six degrees of separation.

Big Hollywood : USA's Quirky 'Psych' Returns Tonight to Bolster Cable TV's Case Against Broadcast Fare

Where are the trolls? Where da haters? Is Psych really that good? I think it is. The article and the comments say it all. Funny, snappy writing, the actors always seem to be playing off each other perfectly, tons of silly pop culture references (especially if you grew up in the 80s like Shawn and Gus) including the world's only Rick Astley piñata. There's also a more serious side. Shawn is growing as a character but fighting it every step of the way.

That's cool, Seth! Davy seemed like a decent guy with a sense of humor. I agree - "Daydream Believer" is a wonderful, simple, happy little song. In a different mood, I also liked Davy's peformance on "Star Collector." I find myself going to youtube to watch the "Cuddly Toy" video once in a while. Even though Davy seemed to know only one dance step (which I call "The Davy"), his partner, Anita Mann, made his little vaudeville routine look pretty groovy.

Try reading the actual Constitution sometime. The First Amendment says the Government can't restrict your speech. It's doesn't say your fellow citizens can't call you a knucklehead when you say something stupid.

Big Hollywood : Calling All Hollywood WikiLeakers

It would be fraud in any other business. Movie making isn't a business - it's showbiz. I think it's always operated according to its own rules. There's a long, honored tradition of screwing the little guy out of his piece of the profit. Ask any vaudevillian whose "manager" took the money and ran, leaving him high and dry in Podunk.

It's a vicious circle. Hipsters demean non-hipsters, who (deservedly) demean the hipsters in return. It would be a lovely world if nobody demeaned anybody. But since hipsters will be hipsters, I say have at 'em. They deserve all the scorn one can heap upon them, not because of their taste but because of their belief in their own superiority.

Now remember, Todd - it takes much more bravery for a man to admit he's weak and helpless than for him to act all macho and violent. It's the liberal man's credo.

I'm ambivalent about this. On one hand, it's nice that the military is being portrayed accurately. On the other, it's like casting pearls before swine - specifically, liberal cultural swine of the sort who wrote the HuffPo article. I would almost prefer a TV documentary to a fictional movie. Of course, the Pentagon can't win. Whether it's presented as fact or fiction, liberals will label it propaganda. And ultimately, it will have to stand or fall as a work of cinema. Accurate or not, it had better be a good movie. Otherwise, it'll be a waste of time and the Pentagon will look silly.

: Why the UK Is Ditching Socialized Medicine

Ideologues is right. When Obama took office, the first thing he and the Democrat-controlled congress did was pursue the monster health care bill. All other priorities, like the wars and the tanking economy, were deferred while the Democrats launched their banzai charge for free doctoring. Seemed to me, with everything else that was going on at the time, that the Dems were using their "mandate" not to address glaring issues but to rush through an item on the ancient Progressive agenda.
