Mark Watches : Mark Watches 'Steven Universe': S04E18 - Rocknaldo

It is worth it for Mark's "wait WHAT???" Also Baize's horrified facial expression.

I can't help but wonder what would've happened if Steven *had* asked room!Rose for answers. I mean... shouldn't the room know everything that Rose knew? Or would that only happen when Rose is there in her physical form? Except the gems have told us their physical forms are illusions, so as long as her gem is present in Steven, shouldn't the room have access to her memories? I WANNA KNOW.

Of course it's a musical theatre number, it's sung by Patti LuPone! :) I happened to be watching with subtitles on because I was having trouble making out what people said that day, and so I was delighted to find that the subtitles actually punctuated the song the way Mark does: "What's the use of feeling, Blue?" I continue to be blown away by the music on this show.

I love that too. It kinda touches on how kids think of whatever it is they've grown up with as normal and boring, no matter how the rest of the world might see it. :)

my mother expressed some exasperation with how stereotypical Andy was portrayed ...wow. That's kind of amazing, considering how very, very mildly I think he was portrayed compared to a whole lot of real life people I've encountered and watched on the news.

I get that. I think maybe it's having a lot of non-verbal communication and storytelling between characters? And/or where one character talks, and is interacting with a bunch of characters who don't? Because I can think of a lot of Studio Ghibli moments where that's the case...

On a side note on the rooms, I loved that for Sardonyx's room, the door becomes a curtain. She is on stage all the time, after all.

OMG THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS I've been tearing my hair out every time Mark didn't watch the end credits. Because this is something amazing that I've never seen done with a television show of any kind before-- the end credit music not only changing, but progressing chronologically as puzzle pieces that form a whole song. Apparently fan theories abound as to the meaning of the song, whose POV it is supposed to be, etc. I think Rebecca Sugar said it was multiple POVs, so then everyone speculated on who was supposed to be singing which section. (Are there clues based on what episodes the pieces are with? I DON'T KNOW.) (Ever since a friend pointed me at the complete song, I walk around singing it all the time and sometimes I sing it as my sound check in concerts.) It's just amazing and brilliant and so subtle because it's not something everyone pays attention to. Fucking GENIUS.

Or maybe she learned from that moment what a horrible act it was to shatter a gem, and never wanted to have another one on her conscience. That's what I've always thought it must be.

I'm pretty sure that's what happened too. The whole argument anyway was two old rich white racist assholes arguing over whose country has to take the brown people. Ugh.
