Oh my gosh new 2017 anime shows Made in Abyss and Ancient Magus' Bride would be such great additions.

Made in Abyss is a dark fairy tale that many have compared to Ghibli films. It's an adventure about traversing hell, literally and figuratively, thankfully with the help and companionship of our fellow humans.

Ancient Magus' Bride is a beautiful story that takes place in one of those "Our Modern World But There's A Secret, Ancient Magical Society Living Alongside Us" a la Harry Potter and a million other stories. Though, it uses the learning of magic and the magical world as metaphor for working through trauma and depression.
