Usually I have a runner or large charger with a plant in the middle or candles. I change it up often. Since we burn a lot of wood for warmth in the winter I currently have a thin layer of soot mixed with dust in which I see the tale-tale foot prints of my beloved (sometimes) cat, Shadow.
