hearwax : GREATEST FUCKING MOVIE OF ALL TIME – The Room (2003)

That's one of the things which amazed me about this movie. The awfulness of it was ... fresh? I feel like the modern B film has gotten stuck in utilizing the same shtick and stock cliches to create their aura of bad. The Room seemed to approach it in a completely different way. You should definitely check it out next month though. Bring some plastic cutlery. Oh and Troll 2 still maintains a special place in the so bad its good section of my heart, right along with Silent Night Deadly Night 2 (1987), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7gIpuIVE3k&fe...

Shame he hasn't posted a new song in a while. Oh and guitar covers rock as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fMFt_QpQDo

hearwax : District 9

Yes Blomkamp's Halo was cancelled, but i've been hearing from several places online that Jackson is taking over the project officially this time. Or not. We'll see what happens, but it would be interested if it still adopted some of Blomkamp's style.

Much agreed. To clarify, I respect both Blomkamp's method and approach greatly, and don't blame him for the major failures of the film. In fact I hope this film is greatly successful so that we may see where he takes his style next. It's just as a film, it was horribly unfulfilled. But yes this style of "faux" documentary is really compelling and I hope to see more. Let's see what happens with Halo!

i'll admit the 5.5 is biased by my disappointment (which is a fault more so of my expectations and not the movie itself) so i'll say instead 5.5 - 6.5. But my upset really comes down to this just being such a mediocre film. His other work really excelled and connecting fantastical elements with reality. Making it seem like people and events rather than characters and stories. This film was just a forgettable action film. Nothing new. On a brighter note if you haven't already, check out his 2 original shorts above. really shows the directors potential.

hearwax : Moon

I saw the original short that Peter Jackson picked up on, a couple years ago on spyfilms and was instantly struck with what a great film it could be. So when I saw the first teaser/viral ad I flipped my shit. That said the recent trailer along with the new media coverage is starting to make it look like they might have cut alot out in favor of marketability. I really hope not, but we'll get what we'll get. I reserve full judgment till after I see it. But here's hoping!

hearwax : Watchmen: The Director's Cut

Saw it just an hour ago for the first time. First Impression: sloppy waste of money. There is no soul at all. It so excessively self serving and cosmetic. I don't understand why he couldn't just make a completely separate film which would have benefited from his "style" (which I actually like when it is appropriate) instead of butcher via association something like Watchmen. With that said I agree on your other points as well. Separate from the legacy of Moore and graphic novels, the film itself is nothing special with plenty of problems. The worst of which is complete lack of memorability. I saw it 30 minutes ago and already could care less about every single scene. Nothing in it stands out as something I would ever want to re watch. Why won't they stop making comic book movies? (obvious answer: because we keep paying for it)

hearwax : I Love You, Man

An hour and a half gay joke. Almost left the theater. I don't think Jason Segel can't act, but in this film he chose not to. His character was empty and without a personality, save for a prop trunk of random "manly" objects. Bottom line it was an uninspired comedy with cheap laughs. Or so felt I.
