Matador Nights : This is the most creative use of youtube I've ever seen.

Very creative...loved it! Another realization of your idea about collecting clips around the world and mixing them together is the documentary What About Me? <a href="http://www.whataboutme.tv" target="_blank">http://www.whataboutme.tv - I've plugged this movie over and over again, and will continue to do so because everyone needs to see it.

Matador Nights : World's Best Barbecue

You're making me hungry man!! Great roundup...I can vouch for lechon (being Filipino and all) - not to be overlooked is their sweet pork barbeque too (on a stick). I had Korean bbq in, of all places, Mongolia! It was fab. We had a BBQ on the banks of the Yarra (Melbourne) using the public BBQ, which was actually free. And I've heard stories from friends who just traveled in SA about the beef there...that it's unbeatable. I do love me a good bbq!

I'll have to read that Pale Blue Dot - pretty much what I think anyway, how insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things - we like to think we are the pinnacle of everything, that nothing is above us. Can't we all just get along people??

Matador Abroad : Confessions of a Serial Couchsurfer

Hi...yep, plenty of us out there! We've hosted and surfed ourselves and met great people who we still keep in contact with. Don't limit yourselves to CouchSurfing.com...HospitatlityClub is worth a check. The interface is not as pretty and user-friendly as CS but depending what country you are traveling in, you might find more hosts with HC. Check out this page for stats on CS vs. HC: http://meeting.hospitalityclub.org/stats_hc_vs_cs If you need some tips about setting up your profile before you surf, check out my article! http://www.vagabondish.com/how-to-impress-your-ho...

I enjoyed that read! Something a bit different on the Matador network...loved the ending, I got a chill up my spine as I read that note. I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic and my heart sank, as I'm sure yours did at the time. Have you been in contact at all?

Brave New Traveler : Analyzing the Traveler's Mind Through 3 Persistent Myths

Excellent post Sarah...I would say that this mindset is directly proportional to maturity, which is generally related to age and also attached to awareness. As we pile on the years and experience we are opened up to new and different ideas all the time and usually (hopefully) tend to become more well-rounded human beings and travelers.

Disturbing...I remember kayaking in Halong Bay and seeing plastic bag after plastic bag floating like jellyfish. Mind you, I think it's the locals there just tossing their junk overboard or out of their floating homes...and don't even get me started on Italy and Russia *shudder*

Matador Change : The World's Worst Offenders

Depends who you ask...some would say the two terms are interchangeable, but others would say a dump is just a hole in the ground with trash in it with no regard to how it is dealt with, while a landfill is a carefully monitored and engineered "dump", that is lined to prevent leachate form going into the soil, etc. I'll see if I can locate a copy of that essay...thanks!

Those are some great tips! I hadn't heard of Google Notepad. That is sweet...up to now I've been saving drafts in my Gmail for random thoughts and such...I'll be transferring them all to the Notepad now. This Internet thing just keeps getting better and better doesn't it... I'll also be sure to check out those podcasts. Thanks!

I was in China at the same time as my friend who kept a blogspot blog. She was able to blog...that is, until she wrote one about Tibet. Then it was game over for her (in regards to blogging that is, she was never harmed physically) until she left China.
