As Director of Women2Win I am always keen to encourage debate. The facts are - 79% of Conservative MPs elected in 2017 were men. It was 79% in 2015 too. We all want the best people to do the job who are selected on merit without resorting to quotas or women only short lists. The reality is many more men come forward than women; at the CCHQ Candidates Forum I went to recently out of an audience of 50 only 5 were women. Unless we have the same number of women candidates coming in at the bottom as men we cannot have the same number coming out at the top. This is where we need your help. Women need to be asked which is why we are promoting along with the brilliant CWO the #AskHerToStand initiative. As Ruth Davidson said last week ‘we all know 3 or 4 women that would be great in local politics or Parliament and it is up to all of us to tap them on the shoulder’.
