The Texas Legislature and the Department of Aging and Disability DID NOT ASK and DID NOT FUND the proper amount of money to hire staff at night to oversee this mini-lockup unit of 28 alleged offenders… This is where the fight happened. These men committed crimes, but since they were mentally retarded the courts remanded them to this state school. A state school is not the proper place for such people. Most ALLEDGED OFFENDERS function, at a much higher level than the rest of the fragile and profound population at the Corpus Christi.
