Daily Camera.com: : Lori Fuller: Proposed open space plan punishes dog owners - Boulder Daily Camera

Sorry, that argument is fallacious. If the overall number of tickets is very low, then 3/4 of them being for dog offenses still makes the enforcement ineffective. And there are a number of other issues - how much is the fine, is it really a deterrent? Are all the tickets written in a small area, like Sanitas Valley? Are they only written on weekends when open space tends to fill up? I've spent thousands of hours over the years hiking and biking open space. The reality is that it is very, very rare to meet a ranger out there.

Unless they increase enforcement, whatever rules they come up with don't really matter anyway. I've been going to open space with my dog about 100 days a year for the past six years, and in all that time I've only met rangers on the trail twice. We don't need new rules, we need the rules already in place enforced.

Daily Camera.com: : CU-Boulder\'s censoring of student art stirs free expression debate - Boulder Daily Camera

Not sure what any of this has to do with liberal vs. conservative. There is a small possibility she is studying art because she loves art and wants to be an artist. While looking at education as an investment toward a high-paying career is the norm (and makes a lot of sense) it obviously is not everyone's path. We do need artists. We need musicians. We need writers. We need actors. Thank god there are people driven to create even if they have to support themselves making lattes. Reducing every career decision to economic benefit will make us a sterile society.

Daily Camera.com: : Legal experts: Ex-cops in Boulder elk shooting could hurt DA\'s cases - Boulder Daily Camera

The story is potentially guilty individuals gaining freedom through these jerks' behavior. Of course, the accused in their investigations maybe truly innocent (the cynic in me doubts this - most crimes are pretty obvious and most people arrested are guilty) but in any case it's a line of defense that should never be in play. That's interesting, at least to me.

This is among the most inane and insulting comments I've seen on this forum. I have an MBA. Not only that, but one from a good school where I actually spent money, time and effort to get the degree. I wonder what advanced degrees are acceptable to you?

"If we have a separate armed class of individuals ... we will eventually descend back to a society of social privileges" Really? You think it is distributions of guns that create societal divisions in America in 2013? Not disparity of wealth, lack of opportunity, incestuous political power, uncontrolled corporate influence ...

None would be great. However, the writer's statement "I will never again look at a Boulder Police officer without wondering what he or she is about to shoot." is way over the top. I don't believe there should be a free pass. Investigation is absolutely warranted. The idea of some sort of civil review board seems reasonable. But to call for "a thorough fumigation" before an investigation is invoking a lynch-mob mentality.

I am equally disgusted with the elk incident, and hope justice is served. However, my few personal interactions with Boulder police have always been positive. They have been professional and helpful. I think the letter writer is using too broad a brush.

If the sting was specifically set up to capture men who knowingly agreed to sex with an underage prostitute I don't get why it is either entrapment or ridiculous police work. Like child porn laws, there are laws in place to protect children, and breaking the law has consequences.

The bald eagles are back for the winter in the open space north of the Res. I've seen two adults and one juvenile - there may be more. They have a steady diet of prairie dogs and fish. I watched one catch a fish in the small part of the res that was not frozen and stand on the edge of the ice enjoying the meal. Beautiful predators, worth a cold walk with some binoculars.

I've never understood why cold weather helps in fighting forest fires. Colder air is denser, which means more oxygen to help fuel the fire, and is also drier, which I assume also helps fires to burn. Obviously snow and rain help, but why does cold help?
