I can’t see an EU FTA deal by the end of the year. The EU won’t want to lose face on so many of its excessive demands. Negotiations will continue in due course. As for the other trade deal prospects, I find it rather exciting and refreshing that the UK is again open to the world in its own right, instead of being shackled to a sluggish protectionist monster.

Oh please, the low income families I know spend most of their time on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc. From about 6 years and upwards. The claim by the teaching Unions that they were opposed to online lessons because low income kids didn’t have a computer at home was ridiculous.

This is good sense. I found the article itself rather disturbing, it does seem naive. The bullet points read like they came from a brainstorming session of political advisors with zero military knowledge.

Doesn’t pansexual just mean you have the greatest possible virtue, as (theoretically at least) you will accept any sexual partner whatsoever. Look at me, yes me - no discrimination here!

I wish you luck. All the alternatives are just as bad.

Let’s be honest, the main news programmes are not very good indeed. They are biased and limited in scope, besides being poorly presented by people who showcase their virtuous politics.

Pre-Referendum, I several times met Border Force officials up to Director General level (this author's successor) as a stakeholder representing general aviation interests. At the start of this period, we were dealing with the fallout from the collapse of an IT project, which was intended to revolutionise the cross-border arena. Subsequently, there were sudden changes to border regulations which had to be challenged. I met groups of officials including uniformed customs officers and standard issue (I.e. purpled-haired job sharer) HO civil servants. They were not culturally integrated then, but it seems extraordinary that Border Force and HO are not coordinated in terms of major policy announcements. The Home Secretary needs to get a grip.

Your final sentence is key to the current position. Many of these hoodwinked liberals are in positions of influence and have swallowed the woke ideology (e.g. BLM and XR). I believe they see it somehow as the next step in virtue, even if perhaps a bit uncomfortable. They publicly support BLM, for example, in order to signal their virtue. And it feels so cool to be down with the kids! Many who consider themselves liberal are nevertheless prepared to accept a deeply illiberal ideology, with racist and authoritarian elements. They swallowed climate change mythology, they loved political correctness, this is the next step. I’m afraid it’s up to conservatives to oppose wokery for the present.

Conservatives, Leavers, even centrists have been treated with suspicion and dislike in most departments of UK universities for some years. Best to keep a low profile in discussion and be seen reading the Guardian.

Schedule 2 of the EU (Withdrawal) Act (which is given effect by Section 11 in one sentence) is quite a complex part of the legislation. It attempts to balance the powers of the devolved governments against Westminster in a reasonable and acceptable manner. We do have a single market in the UK (I can’t speak for NI) and as such we need a level-playing field in terms of environment, agriculture and fisheries regulation. There is no power grab by Westminster, in fact if anything it’s the other way about.
