Daily Camera.com: : Guest opinion: On the frontlines of illegal immigration - Boulder Daily Camera

So, what is your proposed solution? At least the Arizona law might help stem the tide of more illegal alien incursions and slowly begin to send back some of the millions already here.

Sorry Mike, but the citizenry has a reasonable expectation that elected officials will enforce the law whether or not the administration du jour agrees with that law or not. Illegal, and that's the key word that seems to be missing from all the left wing, open borders, bleeding heart screeds, immigration laws have been ignored by both democrat and republican admins and if the Feds won't deal with the issue, then it is perfectly logical for the states to jump in and do something about the problem. As the bumper sticker says, "Think Globally, Act Locally." That's what Arizona is doing.

Daily Camera.com: : Police responding to report of multiple shooting victims in Boulder - Boulder Daily Camera

Did you read the story? "Huntley said officers responded to the scene as if there were an active shooting in progress. " Police and fire always respond to something like this prepared, and stay so during the initial investigation because you have no idea if there are perps still in the area or in the building. What would be your suggestion or your action? Walk in with flowers singing kumbayah?

Tom Parsons - Ever hear of WWII? That's what worked and brought the country out of the Depression. Of course it's 20-20 hindsight speculation, but many economists have said that the economy was turning around by 1936 but that the New Deal caused it to tank again and extended the misery. Seems like we could be experiencing the same thing. Recent reports have indicated that the extension of unemployment benefits is a disincentive for many people to actively look for jobs until their free ride ends.

By the way, it doesn't take being part of a chain to be "loathsome." Somehow Pasta Jay's manages to thrive and it's one of the worst, awful most disgusting places on earth. But at least there are a lot of kids at the table next to you throwing meatballs at their parents.

Classy place? I don't think so. More like Bennigans. When I think of a classy place, the Flagstaff House, John's, Frasca or L'Atelier come to mind. But, Ted's will keep filling the gap for people who take comfort in familiarity as opposed to innovation or adventure. I'm sure there will be lines waiting to get in just like at the awful Cheesecake Factory.

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder County voter survey shows support for open space, ClimateSmart - Boulder Daily Camera

The County Commissars couldn't give a rat's patoutie about the opinion of their constituents and the comrade citizens of Boulder. The surveys are designed to make you "think" that you have a voice but the reality is that they will do what THEY believe is the way everyone SHOULD conform according to their misguided beliefs. ClimateSmart is the Orwellian newspeak they use. I don't know about you, but I never signed up for my paid in taxes to be used as a loan to someone else. If you want to buy into the whole energy boondoggle and spend your money on stuff with a 20 year payback, then fine. But, the County has no business subsidizing and loaning MY money for you to do it.

I'm happy for you and for your savings and I am not disputing the results. I'll ignore the carbon footprint comment because I think that's a bunch of smoke, mirrors and BS. Same as for the idiotic carbon credit trading. But, my point is that the government should not be in the business of encouraging people to go further into debt, regardless of the potential or supposed benefits. I'm curious about the mechanics. Was your loan from a bank and guaranteed by the County or did you borrow direct from the County? If the latter, then I and the other tax paying citizens of Boulder just loaned you the money, NOT the County. And, I never signed up to be anyone's bank.

What this shows me is the importance of learning to speak English. He was born in California but cannot speak fluent English? This is a failure on the part of his family and a perfect example of the importance of assimilation rather than self segregation which is all too prevalent in the immigrant (legal and illegal) Hispanic community. Waves of previous immigrants from non-English speaking countries put learning English at the top of their priority list because they wanted to become Americans. Besides, there was no bilingual coddling in Italian, Polish, German, etc.

I'm outraged about this conference! The carbon footprint that will be generated by Susie jetting in for a 5 minute presentation will probably contribute to the death of at least 3.5 Amazonian giant cicadas. She and the other mayors should be ashamed and forced to watch 24 hour reruns of The Best of Keith Olbermann" as penance.

This is just one more example of liberal, left-wing delusional ideology. Borrow, borrow, borrow. The technology can't pay for itself, homeowners are not disciplined enough to save for the purchase so the government's answer is to promote borrowing. Go into debt for what you cannot afford. Sound familiar? Ramp this all the way up to the Federal level and you have the Obama-Pelosi-Reid doctrine. Borrow until you can't sign papers anymore. Please don't give me the "we inherited the deficit from Bush" line. Yes, Bush spent more money than I liked but Obama and Co. have tripled the deficit in just over a year. There's no magic to reducing the deficit - STOP SPENDING! Why can't you socialists get that through your skulls?

Credit should go to Leisha Conners Bauer who at least said she would need to read the bill first before forming an opinion.
More drivel. It's always nice when a left wing ideologue can work in Nazis during the first paragraph. I'm just surprised that he couldn't figure out how to Nazify his first sentence. To paraphrase Indiana Jones, "it's always the Nazis. I hate Nazis." Looking at produce in supermarkets will reveal veggies harvested by Mexicans in the USA, Mexicans in Mexico, Chileans in Chile and Hondurans in Honduras. The other liberal gambit that goes parallel with Nazi is racist. When all else fails shout "racism!" Evan Meacham did not oppose MLK Day, per se, he just didn't want to add another paid day off holiday for state workers. Was his motivation racist or fiscally responsible? Only he can say. But Ken Cohen's tin-foil hat allows him to get into the former governor's head and reveal the truth. And Gelband, what's reprehensible is the federal government's lack of direct action to stem the tide of illegals. Arizona and other states are being forced to act on their own to enforce federal law.

Daily Camera.com: : Iran says mothers can visit 3 jailed Americans - Boulder Daily Camera

These three are far left, anti-American activists, two of whom chose to leave the USA and live in Syria, a totalitarian anti-American state. Sarah Shourd wrote articles sympathetic to Syria and vehemently anti Israel. http://news.newamericamedia.org/news/view_article... They probably thought that Iran was being bullied by the nasty USA. Sitting in an Iranian prison, they may have had time to rethink their positions. But, probably not. If you live in Syria and go hiking on the Iranian border, you deserve what you get.

"......the will ask each and every person in that van for papers - and that is not legal. " Let's examine the consequences of that heinous act. 1. Everyone is legal and there is no problem. Van goes on its merry way. 2. The guy who just robbed the 7-11 down the street, shooting the clerk, is in the van and gets busted. You have a problem with that? 3. There are illegal aliens in the van who then get arrested, have due process and when found to be real illegal aliens, they are deported. I don't see anything terrible here either.

Do you have a problem showing the cop your drivers license if you are stopped for a traffic offense? Do you resist showing same license or passport to the TSA agent at the airport? Do you refuse to show your drivers license to the clerk at the Med Pot clinic when paying by check? Why are you crying and ripping your clothes over illegal aliens having to show proof of legal status? Should they get preferential treatment?
