Actually, that is the normal way to carry new vehicles. For the most part, they don't drive them across country on the trucks. I know my new truck was transported by train out here from Missouri. The dealer and everyone online when I was researching before I ordered it said all of theirs were transported by train.

Very glad the kid had access to the gun and knew how to use it. Congrats to both the kid and the parents, you did good! It's probably best that the person will likely live. A lot of adults have a hard time dealing with taking a life, even if it was in self defense, and I wouldn't wish that on a 14 year old. In this case he was able to successfully stop the threat, and that's what really matters.

Locking guns up isn't the answer, people need to properly educate their children on what a gun is and how to handle it safely. The ones who tell their kids that guns are off-limits and hide them away are setting themselves up for disaster when natural curiosity takes over and the child finds a gun at home or at someone else's house and he/she has no idea how to handle it safely. I started shooting by age 8, when dad bought my brother (age 10) and I a Browning A-Bolt .22LR rifle. We were taught from the very first day what it was, how to handle it, and what it could do if we used it improperly. We always knew where it was in the house, but never got it out unless we were going shooting with dad. Most of the shooters I know had similar introductions to firearms.

Your 10,000 times number is pure fiction. At least try to get your argument right.

Suicides w/ firearm - 18,735 (51% of all suicides in 2009)
Domestic Violence - 2,340 (all 2007 deaths, couldn't find for firearms)
Accidental Discharge - 554 (0.7% of non-transportation accidents in 2009)
Justifiable Homicides w/ firearm - 218 (82% of justifiable homicides in 2009)

That's a 99:1 ratio if you assume all the domestic violence deaths occurred with a firearm, which obviously they did not. I'ts certainly not 10,000:1 ratio. By the statistics, there is at least one justifiable homicide with a firearm every two days in this country, and that does not count uses of a firearm in self defense that don't end in death even though those cases are just as important. The reason you don't see the media reporting these stories because they don't draw in the viewer and readers as well. I have a hard time with denying people like this teen the right to self defense when there is no evidence that the majority of these suicides or domestic violence homicides wouldn't have occurred if guns did not exist.

The on-screen keyboard on my Torch is horrible. I and everyone else at work can't stand it, we use the physical keyboard instead. Hopefully they vastly improved that feature. I predict that RIM/Blackberry will be out of the smartphone market within two years. They can't keep pace with what the iPhone and Android devices are doing in either hardware or software.
