This isn't news. The same considerations were made in the 20's and the 60's. And still Northern Ireland continues in its original form. Not much of a story really.
Rising prices, cold OAP houses, few jobs, Xmas bombings, despondent youth, NHS on its knees, how good to see we're getting our priorities right
Maybe we should stop sending the guilty tainted old guard to these talks and start sending younger people without the ingrained hatreds of the past.
Wow there must be something big in it for our Gerry.
Anyone running a book on this yet?
Another one bites the dust.
I'm sooooooo tired of the flag comments and how flying both will solve everything. It won't. Nationalists view the Union as a symbol of historical oppression, of a different sovereign state, of a repressive LOL regime. Unionists see the tricolour as hand in hand with balaclavas, bombs and Armalites, again of a different, alien foreign, sovereign state, of murderers and knee cappers. We need a shared symbol, not to share each other's. Just as Scotland, Wales and the "devil spawn"England have their own unique symbol so Northern Ireland should have its own uniqueness, marked not by violence and dissent, not by the same old historical dates being trotted out as justification for more disagreement, not by old guard politicians with no eye to the future. Draw a line people, move on together, or the future is very bleak indeed. Happy Christmas, but I am doubtful for a happy new year.
I wonder if this is stopped will we see a massive compensation claim for loss of earnings????
