KCRG : Delaware County Dispatch Honored for Lake Delhi Emergency | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Spor

I am with you on that! If you go to <a href="http://www.lakedelhi.com" target="_blank">www.lakedelhi.com and read the minutes from April 22nd you will see that only 17% of the people that live around the lake have donated or pledged to the rebuilding fund. That tells you that they want the dam back but the majority of them DO NOT want to pay for it and instead would prefer to panhandle our governments (local and federal) to give them the money to do it.

Not to get too distracted from what the article is about. Congratulations to the 911 dispatchers and the first responders who took so many people out of harms way. God Bless all of you!

"As of today, the Community Fund to Rebuild Lake Delhi has raised $942,000 in pledges/donations towards the initial goal of $3.5 Million for the rebuilding of dam!" PLEDGES is the operative word here drunkdriverx4! (which by the way I think your name is appropriate for the representation of the Lake Delhi inhabitants) "We have approximately $240,000 in actual cash" That's a little short of a million but I am sure your brain is a little hazy from last night so you are excused. These quotes are from the April 22nd minutes posted on <a href="http://www.lakedelhi.com" target="_blank">www.lakedelhi.com. Maybe you should have somebody read them to you since I am sure you are not intelligent enough to read them yourself.

No donation from me. I pay enough in taxes to the government, giving a donation to LDRA's cause is just like giving it directly to the Feds since they will be confiscating that money for repayment of the misappropriated funds received from FEMA previously.

They don't have time to clean up their mess they are too busy trying to raise funds for a new dam, that they will not maintain and will breach again. They have raised over $100,000 now and they have not offered a penny of it to help with any clean up effort. The county is financially strained because it has spent $100,000 cleaning up their mess and still they march on begging FEMA and the state of Iowa for money and planning to raise over $3,500,000 for their part of the rebuild. I hope that their permit to build gets denied and FEMA puts a levy on their account for repayment of the funds that they already owe them.

They better NEVER get that dam rebuilt.

Not to mention whomever wins the boat will have to pay income tax on the value ($36,485) less the $10 that they paid for the ticket. I hope this newly formed 501C3 company understands that they have to do a 1099 to the winner. Especially since they just published it in a newspaper.

Wouldn't it be funny if they raise the money to build the dam (which I doubt that they will in our lifetime) and then they apply for the building permit and get denied. LOL! Well, then they can use the money they raised to clean up the abandoned properties and mess that their neglect caused. But instead they will probably divide the money up between themselves and have a big party!

If they had 3 mil to spare they wouldn't have vacation homes around Lake Delhi. I would think they would want to be in a more upscale area than Lake Delhi! Having money and making people think you have money is two very different things!

The water was state owned, the dam was owned by the LDRA. Without a private dam, there is no private lake. End of story!

YEAH!!! Go FEMA, Go FEMA, Go FEMA. Now let's waist more time and money appealing the district decision and take it to the Federal level so that can get denied. With all the natural disasters happened around the world do you think that FEMA is going to spend one penny on a useless dam used to create a recreational lake for a handful of people. Snap out of it people and get a reality check. The 9.0 earthquake and Tsunami that just happened in Japan is overdue on the west coast, FEMA needs to hoard their money for that and other real natural disasters. LDRA does not constitute a natural disaster, although that is a subjective opinion.

You are right Archie, I just heard that The Maquoketa Valley Alliance, a non profit 501c3 organization has formed a new group to undertake private fund-raising for the rebuilding of Lake Delhi. They have already raised $80,000!!! Let's see that is $80,000 in 20 months and they are planning to raise a total of $3,500,000....at that rate in 71.25 years you all will have a shot at getting your dam built. LOL! Maybe they should use that $80,000 to clean up the abandoned homes and trash that still hasn't been cleaned up after the flood and dam breach. I am just sayin.....!

That's the problem, the people of Lake Delhi want to use tax payers money but they don't want anything to change as far as access or ownership so it will ONLY benefit the people of Lake Delhi. And then there is the age old question....how are they going to maintain this $24 million dam? It has already been proven that putting in a hydroelectric dam will not generate enough electricity to justify the cost. Yes, it used to be a hydroelectric dam but that doesn't mean it would be cost efficient in this day and age. LDRA is still paying for funds received for dredging the lake in 2006 of which the benefit was reversed in 2008 and 2010 by floods. Nobody has the funds available to maintain the lake if the dam were to be rebuilt. All over the country state and federal parks are being closed, why should the residents of Lake Delhi or Delaware County be given money to turn the river into a lake?

I am going to go out on a limb here and make a prediction. I predict that the dam will not be rebuilt anytime soon and IF the money is found to rebuild it, the lake will not be a private lake in any form of the word. The residents that live around the lake will have LAKE ACCESS property but they will no longer have LAKE FRONT property. There will be a REAL sewer system and there will be a public water system. By the time they figure out the bill for all these renovations, there will not be enough money to do all of it and the river will just stay a river. Like I said before Archie, you might want to consider trading in your pontoon boat for a kayak.

Please read this very slowly so you can comprehend what I am saying.....Primary homes that have been damaged in a flood will get limited help from the government. Did you get that? PRIMARY HOME, means the home that you live in. Are you still with me? The last time I checked the Lake Delhi Dam was NOT A PRIMARY HOME! The VACATION HOMES around Lake Delhi do not qualify for any help either. See, the purpose is to help people that have become homeless due to a flood. It is not a necessity to have a vacation home to survive, but most people need a PRIMARY HOME to live in. If you still don't understand let me know and I will try to use smaller words to explain it again!
