Your writing and your heart always make me so happy. And blessed. Blessed that you've allowed others to share in these words. And blessed to be your friend.

Ugh, yes. The funk. I have it Big Time. I need to do some mental rearranging and spring (fall?) cleaning.

Up high, sister.

When Stephen and I decided to get a dog, I decided on a whim that I would surprise him with one. So, on faith, I went to Petco and bought everything we would need one day while he was at work - bed, leash, collar, food, toys, treats, bowls, etc.

Then I drove to the Humane Society, walked in, and told them I wanted to adopt a dog. They asked me if I had a specific one in mind and I shook my head. I got a couple of confused looks but they let me in the Dog Room and I started window shopping. Huge dogs, old dogs, abused dogs, teeny dogs, yappy dogs, drop-kick dogs, puppies...

There was a concrete pen in the middle of the room where a HUGE PUPPY - like small pony huge - was playing surrounded by teenier puppies. A woman kept picking up and putting down the huge puppy and how she kept holding him I have no idea because seriously - small Ox enormous.

I watched and giggled at the littler puppies trying to herd the bigger one and, suddenly, one of them detached himself from the pack and came over to me. He simply stood up on his hind legs and put his paws on the wall and stared at me. His little tag said his name was Little Boy Pie and he was part german shepherd part beagle. I picked him up and he put his head on my chest in such a way that he could stare up at me fondly.

I adopted him immediately and brought him to my husband's work to surprise him. We renamed him Max and he's been an amazing dog for two years.

So.

The moral of my fantastic tale is, find your local humane society and just show up. Seriously. You never know who or what may be there or who or what may imprint on you. Max and his litter had shown up the day before and weren't on any website yet. It was kismet.

Serendipitous.

Whatever.

It turned out.

The birthing yurt. *snort*

Also, I want shamans to serenade my baby to sleep every night as that is clearly the most acceptable way for them to enter REM.
