Chloe got married without her Dad there (he's still alive!) so it makes sense that Jimmy would leave his family behind, right? Weren't they all jerks? Jerks who only come to his funeral, apparently. That was just...yeah. Are you suuuure? Good point :)

I dunno if it's the hoyay or what here, but you make a totally great point: what makes Brainiac so different from Doomsday? They're both creations that aren't really responsible for their homicidal tendencies since, you know, somebody else left that programming loophole in there for them to exploit. If the only difference is that one is organic and the other is not, that's totally bulls***. Sentience is sentience, whether it's a rock or a rhino. I, too, was pleased to discover Chloe was Not-Chloe. They almost got me with the long, lingering shots of Allison Mack crying her eyes out and being entirely freaked. I mean, I knew the girl could act (she's one of the few that tries any more), but yeesh. That was so uncomfortable to watch that I'm almost mad that it wasn't her. But only almost because what came later would have been impossible to reconcile with Chloe as we know her. Characterization may not be a guiding mantra on this show, but I get really annoyed when they screw with characters I like for no reason.

One of my favorite moments had to be Nimoy-Spock meeting Quinto-Spock. It's funny that, to my memory, Quinto-Spock was way more emotional and human than Nimoy-Spock as was in TOS. However, in this case, Nimoy-Spock had done so much more living and adapting that he seemed emminently more human as a result. It's so funny that those associations I had got turned on their head by that one meeting. Plus Spock just taught himself that he could lie. I would like more made of this, kthnxbai.

I think you're selling DeForest Kelly short if you're honestly telling me you NEVER got a little squirmy over McCoy before this movie. There's plenty of reason why Dax got that little mischievous smile on her face when she was talking about McCoy's rather excellent hands... Sorry. Always been a McCoy pervert, always will be.

Cheers and thanks for the good word! I miss Michael McKean, too. Then again, I miss when this show was about the teenage Clark Kent and not about him refusing-to-be-Superman-even-though-he's-basically-Superman era.

Considering that Lois moved to the Planet from the DC equivalent of the Enquirer...yeaaaahhh...The Daily Planet exists to give the Luthors and their lackeys an outlet to bully other papers into not saying they're murderers and scum all the time. It's a vanity press at this point. I'm really hoping that that would change if Perry White were to come back. But they'd probably just ruin him, too, Michael McKean or no.

It's not that Claire is in these situations way more than anyone else (in one season, I think Niki was in more), just that they're compounded by how young Claire is and how powerless the show makes her at every turn. (Niki was an adult AND had Jessica riding shotgun to protect her.) Like, yes, we get it, Claire has a defensively superior power, but that doesn't mean she should be completely unable to protect herself. I find it really funny that one of the supposedly greatest comic book bad-asses, Wolverine, has Claire's ability. I doubt anyone would sideline him the way they do Claire. Claire needs to demonstrate some slight resistance to pain or something such that she could keep coming at a person. Regardless of whether she's a ninja like Wolverine (or, you know, has his indestructible skeleton and foot-long claws), she could do a lot of damage. And the wigs need to be burned. I've seen more convincing hair on Donald Trump.

I never thought of that! Wow, good point. Then again, the writers on this show know less about farming than I do, and all the ones who were around when the farm wasn't just a set-piece for Clark's home are long gone. I'm loving the cross-over attraction of this killing field in all directions. I can picture Dexter Morgan rolling his eyes over how stupid this killer was. Then killing him. Dexter would know how!

I hope not! Because Little Ben is amazing. The actor is good, he looks eerily like adult Ben, and he's so entirely creepy. Moreover, if they don't bring him back and they don't do alternate universe stuff here, that means no more Ben and I'll have no reason to watch because Ben is the most consistently amazing, interesting, funny, and devastating character on the show.

Oh, it's more likely that I'm just totally wrong here. I'm probably attaching the wrong theorem to the idea. It probably isn't string theory that I mean, but there IS a theorem that physicists have about the multiverse such that you can have time travel "paradoxes" that aren't. You can kill your grandfather, but it creates another universe. In your normal time stream, he's safe and sound. So should Ben be. Sorry for the confusion! You read one book on physics and think you know everything and then comment stupidly on the internet to prove how poorly you read it. Must go back to the library, me.

I believe, if string theory is correct, adult Ben is fine because Sayid's actions have created an alternate future. Back in our old future, Ben is just beat up and more than a little pissed at everyone.

Pink Raygun.com : A Human Masterpiece: In Defense of Battlestar Galactica's Ending

There is a difference between having faith that God exists and having proof that he does. Spirituality is not the problem; literally having God use his intermediaries to step in and direct the actions of people was. If the plot was driven by different people and their different faiths determining (in part) how they would act, that would be fine. If the plot depends on Angels TELLING people how to act, it's less about individual will and more about determinism, which is a cold fish of a story device. There's just no way to warm to that sort of thinking. It also robs characters of agency; if we cannot believe that these characters make their own mistakes and have their own triumphs, then we cannot relate to them. (Because we the audience understand personal faith influencing a decision but do not--usually--have direct lines to God that will inform us as to what to do.) Part of what BSG always did very well was making characters responsible for their choices. Adama chose to lie to people to keep their spirits up about Earth; all the consequences of having that lie exposed fall on his shoulders--things like the mutiny are, ultimately, his fault as much as anything else. By having Angels step in, you prevent that chain of response/consequence that determines morality. I can't believe that that is a more compelling way of telling a story.

Pink Raygun.com : Cylon Says: BSG - Daybreak Part Two

Yeah, I don't buy it. You can have angels when you don't invent them two minutes from the end of your series. The first we heard that Baltar and Caprica weren't the only crazies seeing invisible people was when they shoe-horned in a mention of them through future-hybrid!Sam. It's also a total slap in the face that Starbuck is one of these angels. That means we never got her back and that the last she ever existed was as a troubled, strung-out, suicidal woman who flew into a space vortex. Also, apparently angels can forget who they are. Again, that works on Supernatural, but not on this show. I also don't buy, after this long battle to finally integrate with Cylons--themselves advanced machines--that technology is the reason there were problems. The reason there were problems was that people behaved irresponsibly and immorally with regards to individual, conscious beings. If humanity hadn't enslaved their technology that could think, none of this would happen. The moral SHOULD have been about that. But no--despite the grievous insult to the Cylons implied by Apollo's loathing of technology--it's all about how computers kill. I'm reminded of a saying: Guns don't kill; people do. I think that's true whether you're shooting bullets or genocidal robots. And I am relieved that I wasn't the only one who groaned aloud at the Angels going "He doesn't like to be called God" after staring over Ron Moore's shoulder in that coda. Yes, RDM, we know you like to THINK you're God. Leave it at home, please.
