Daniel Decker : 14 Ways to Increase Your Blog and Newsletter Subscriber Rates

Great suggestions, Daniel! I've started doing #14 when I speak and it's been a great tool. I create a download or additional content. Using Aweber as my platform, I just drop them in a separate list so I know where they came from. I've seen conversion rates as high as 50% for some of my sessions.

Kenny Silva's Blog | Faith Based Leadership : The Power of Casting Vision

Another great post, Kenny! Here are a few things from my 5 year vision (I've got a 20-year vision too but I'll save everyone from the grand plans): 1. Buy a house cash. Have owned a couple with loans and have no interest in doing that again. :) 2. Written and published a NYT best-seller (non-fiction) 3. Have 2.5 kids. Basically, 2 kids with the possibility of a third. 4. DontSettle.org in over 25 countries (1,000+ active readers per month in each). We're already in 48 but not at those volumes. 5. Syndicated radio show. There's more. I like to put numbers on things so I can track my progress. All of these have some sort of numerical measurement in my docs even if not mentioned here. Again...thanks for the link! Cheers, Travis

Kenny Silva's Blog | Faith Based Leadership : How to Get Smart(er)

Great post, Kenny! I love "argue with people smarter than you" and "teach people smarter than you" as suggestions. Nothing crystalizes your own thoughts and ideas on a topic like trying desperately to synthesize and explain them to others. Fantastic tips! And thanks for the shout out! You KNOW you're on my reader for the same reason. You challenge and encourage me and I greatly appreciate it. Cheers, Travis

Kenny Silva's Blog | Faith Based Leadership : Fun Friday – Who Would You Meet?

Darn you for commenting first, Justin!! Agree with Justin on this one. Nobody (other than my own dad) has had a more profound impact on my life and way of thinking about money and business than Dave Ramsey. "Meeting" him has already been done. Actually sitting down with him in a learning environment one-on-one or a small group type setting would be incredibly valuable. I know he's got his "Eagles Group" - that's the type of learning I'd like to do with Dave. -Travis

Michael Hyatt Blog : Why Most Authors Should Not Emulate Seth Godin

Great post, Mike! Having nearly half a million followers and readers who you can access directly makes decisions like this wiser for Seth Godin than for someone who is starting out. It also points out the need for authors to work on developing their platform as you suggested in one of your previous posts: While I'm not in the publishing world and have very little to do with it, I do think Seth brings up a good point which is the time-to-market problem. I know that producing a book takes time, but it seems that the entire process works against writers who deal with the sale of timely ideas (those in business and self-help) versus those who are predominantly authors of fiction and other less time-sensitive works. How do you see time-sensitive needs like this impacting how the publishing world will adapt? Do you think they need to? Great post!

Thanks, Laura. I love the "kids" analogy. Though we've not had them yet, that's what we keep hearing is that you're never truly ready until you actually do it. There's only so much learning and preparation before you just have to pull the trigger and do it. Thanks for sharing and you are definitely not alone!

Thanks! I do see it as a lie when people tell themselves that they can't start a business because they don't know how. Perhaps I should have worded that one a bit better. :)

Travis Robertson : Millennials in the Workplace: Motivation vs. Compensation

Yay for PJs! That is a really great article, Amber! Thanks for sharing that. "Why Works Sucks And How to Fix It" - the book that introduces ROWE - is one of my favorite books on the topic you just mentioned. Their work at Best Buy really is impressive and blows holes in everything corporate management believes about productivity and creativity.

Travis Robertson : Millennials in the Workplace: Motivation vs. Compensation

Thanks, Phillip! You nailed it when you said that you WILL champion your work and get it done. This is exactly what people are asking for but so many companies aren't willing to take the perceived risk and give it a try. Those that do are seeing incredible success and innovation. But change is hard and, I fear, a lot of companies will dig their heels in, fight this change and eventually wither away. Thanks for sharing!

Travis Robertson : Working For vs. Working With

Thanks, Justin! And great point! There is so much power in someone shifting their thinking from being employed by a company to self-employed. I wonder how many more small businesses would be launched each year if people shifted their thinking like you suggest. You also raise a great point about autonomy. It goes back to what I posted last week and what Daniel Pink wrote about in Drive: people want autonomy in their work. This basically amounts to choice in 4 areas of our jobs: what we do, how we do it, when we do it, and who we do it with. When we view ourselves as self-employed, we realize that we can, in fact, control those things even if we take a paycheck from a company. We can choose each of those things in our next job. Thanks for sharing that!

Travis Robertson : Millennials in the Workplace: Motivation vs. Compensation

Jason, you bring up a fantastic point! These desires are not unique to Millennials by any stretch. It's been interesting to watch my parents and their friends hit the retirement age (55-65) and then listen to them talk about "what's next." Without fail, they all talk about wanting the sunset years to have meaning and purpose. I think a lot of them are looking back on their working lives and realizing they sacrificed those things on the alter of gaining more money. Not all of them did this, of course. And I don't think the two have to be mutually exclusive. But, like you said, it was beat out of them with fewer options and almost no alternative than to show up and shut up. Really great insight!

Great points about Millennials and the "lazy" factor! Most of us work a lot more than 8 hours each day, we just don't necessarily work more than 8 hours for someone else. I really appreciate you sharing with us! Glad to see another Millennial who's starting their own business. Thanks for the comment!

You also just blew a hole in the argument that Millennials are lazy. :) Congrats on starting your own marketing firm! That's really exciting to hear. Have you always wanted to start your own business or is this something that you decided to do out of frustration with the way companies tend to treat work?

You are absolutely right about their ability to multitask and stay productive! Like you said, I think trying to stop them from doing that will actually harm their creativity. It's awesome to see a company in an industry that a lot of Millennials are interested in that gets it. I'd love to know what other methods you use for reward.
