Interesting Paul, perhaps you would like to state how the following financial and economic factors strangely missing from your piece comprise an ‘historic achievement’?

1. OBR November last shows a Brexit-Specific Real UK GDP ‘hit’ of 4%, about £87bn or about £4,300 per UK family?

2. The same shows a UK growth forecast for 2023 – 2025 of 2.3%, 1.7%, and 1.8% (2020-22 are distorted by Covid); 2014 – 2016, the last comparable pre-referendum actuals were 2.9%, 2.4% and 1.7% ie higher ie still worse off by beginning 2026?

3. Strong evidence of a 2017 – 2020 Brexit-Specific GDP hit of £200bn?

Even with only 1. and 2. it would take the UK 5 years of additional annualised growth exceeding 1% just to get back to where the UK would have been as an EU member – such would be near impossible given that it would be nearly 50% on top of 2023 – 2025. So 15 years on we would be still not even at the start line.

Sounds more like an historic disaster for the average family! Paul ... 'historic triumph over Europe.'

You dont even say 'EU' To you this is just about aggro, division, 'getting one over' our neighbours even if it means shooting oneself in the foot in the process
It's soccer hooligan stuff. It echoes the PM's 24th December speech.
Such attitude many would say disgraces our Country.
In contrast listen to Frau von der Leyen's speech same day talking about conciliation, best for both parties etc
