First time i've listened to Bates and believed him. He makes a valid point. We are lower down the food chain (especially when you factor in West Ham, Leicester and Brum distorting the Champ this year) and as such have to accept players good enough for the Prem will go there if offered a chance - Like Puncheon.

Also the new 25 man squads should mean plenty of bargains to be had in the loan market we genuine prem players needing a place to play for a year and hopefully Leeds fits that bill nicely. Lets face it Citehs reserves could win us promotion. Lets see where we are in a weeks time...

I'm curious as to why the writers hero is of any relevance to, well, anything? Ridiculous criticism.

Good article Nick - criticism of your favourite player or grammar should be ignored.

Personally I am getting tired of the anti-Bates stance solely for the reason that it won't achieve anything as he is the epitomy of stubborness and as such and anti-Bates protest will only serve to unsettle the team. However I do appreciate the professional and insightful analysis of going ons at ER here by TSS but would love to see positives picked up on where ever possible.

As for Keogh - Give him a chance. He may be shite, he may not be. We'll soon find out.

Forsell - Seems a little left field but I'm open to it.

Hopefully 3 points tomorrow will help develop a little momentum.

I don't dispute all is not 100% rosey at ER right now but I'm not entirely sure it's as bad as the major on here believe (Not a slight against TSS as I think you do a great job)

I wouldn't trade our situation for Leicester who are heading for oblivion unless they win the league and then challenge for Europe in Prem next year given their recent expeniture - sounds like a Leeds United/Portsmouth waiting to happen.

Maybe a controversial outlook but would be interesting to see if you disagree with me

Can't help but feel people are over reacting here - based on a speculative article in the Daily Mirror?!

Before we condemn Bates and Grayson lets remember we are 1! game into the season (And we lost our opening game to a very poor Derby side at ER last year), Gradel and Snoddy are still here (For now and doesn't show immediate signs of changing), Grayson is the man responsible for taking us back to the Champ and then finishing 7th last year and Bates love him or hate him (and I assume it is the later) the club simply woudn't exist without him given what he saved us from I have never fully understood the unwaivering hatred toward him (other than he used to own Chelsea? Maybe I'm showing my age (22) but since when were Chelsea a major rival (the 70's)

I personally think we dodged a bullet here. I firmly believe you should never go back. Smithy was class for us 10 years ago - no guarentee he would be now (Frankly what i've seen of him over the last couple of years Brown looks a better player and that is saying something!)

However I do agree that whilst this would have been a poor investment it doesnt negate the fact that investment is needed in almost every aspect of the squad.

Yet again defence lets us down. Surely the fans are not the only ones who realise that. Surely Larry will be looking to strengthen there. No issues with Kisnrobo or Connolly they look solid and will do a job so that just leaves another centre back and a left back.

I personally would like to see Aidy White given a proper run in the side. He cannot be worse than Parker and Bessone. I'm discounting O'Dear as I know nothing about him and I dislike the way we throw a new signing in the side regardless of whether or not they are good enough (Bessone, Bannan, Livermore spring to mind) Parker looks like he needs a loan spell elsewhere to regain confidence as he looked terrified last night.

Going forward looks good even if a little threadbare. Put Snoddy n Maxi in that side with Nunez and Sam on the bench and it looks promising.

All in all I feel mildly confident for the coming season - maybe I'm the only one

I agree - Surely better he makes his mistakes and gets his confidence at another club. Their problems not ours and now he comes back into the side a finished (ish) article rather than an inexperienced kid. Especially when you bear in mind we had Howson, Killa, Johnson in there last year so he wouldnt have got much game time anyway. Same applies to Nunez.
