Big Hollywood : Madonna Targeted for Being Older and Female

Quoting a few examples would have helped your argument. I shouldn't have to visit a "social media outlet" to follow your thesis. Define "social media outlet." Give me a few examples. I read news on the Web and I didn't read anything worse written about Madonna than was written about the other Super Bowl Half-time shows of the last few years. This lame article is what I would expect from the Huffington Post.

Big Hollywood : A Student's-Eye View of Center Stage Liberalism

I cannot speak to their current productions, as I haven't seen a show there in many years, but The Shakespeare Theater used the casting of black actors to underscore martyrdom. In "As You Like It," Rosalind is victimized and thrown from the court. How much stronger her suffering, when you use a black actress. Ditto when they used a black actress as Saint Joan. Sometimes the stunt casting worked, such as when they cast Andre Braugher as Iago opposite Avery Brooks Othello. Sometimes it was a disaster, such as Patrick Stewart as Othello against an all black cast. I also felt that Francelle Dorn was a weak actress who they kept in the company simply for diversity. Perhaps she has gotten better.

As I wrote, I really need an article to build my arguments. But some examples: GA Shakespeare Festival in the 90's did "The Merchant of Venice" set before World War II. They added a scene where Shylock's home is vandalized ala Kristallnacht. The lovers were all Nazis. I am not making this up. Portia wore a Nazi armband. I recently saw "Julius Caesar" with Caesar played by the actor they could find who looked most like Obama, Portia by an actress who looked like Michele and Cassius by an actress who looked like Hilary Clinton. The post-colonial "The Tempest" with a black Caliban has become a Regional Theater cliche. Honorable Mention goes to a director I interviewed for "The Taming of the Shrew." His concept was that it had to be done by an all male cast, with burly hairy men playing the female roles because "Audiences just won't accept the sexism in the play any more." My company staged it as a period romantic comedy and audiences loved it. I could go on.

A large amount of theater is liberal propaganda. I love Shakespeare, but can no longer bring myself to attend productions. To me, Shakespeare represents ideals and philospophies to live by. His writings show a keen understanding of the human mind and feelings, wrapped in a traditional morality. In many ways, Shakespeare is the ultimate conservative playwright. Watching contemporary directors reshape the works into liberal dogma is beyond disheartening. I could write my own article about numberous productions I have seen, along with quoting absurd statements by directors.

Big Hollywood : 'Reds' at 30: Not as Partisan as We Remember?

I think "Reds" is a brilliant movie. I saw it when it opened Christmas of 1981 and several times since. It never fails to impress me and gets better each time. Setting aside its politics, its dramatic two act structure is extremely well done. If you never see the second part after intermission, it ends happily and the Russian Revolution looks like a triumph. Act two shows the disappointment and disillusion when the Revolution fails. I disagree with the author about Louise Bryant's feminist views being anachronistic. Within Reed and Bryant's circle these views were much in vogue. Contemporary writings show this. And I think Nicholson's performance as O'Neill is one of his best.

Big Government : Obama Refuses to Release bin Laden Death Photos

There are no photographs. Bin Laden has been dead for years. Bin Laden stockpiled several videos leading up to the "08 election. Once Obama won, all we got were audio tapes. Why? Because Bin Laden was dead before the election. The audio tapes are not his voice. All the Obama Administration did was confirm his death. The entire raid never happened.

Gere molested that Indian actress on stage a few years ago. If you've seen the video it shows what a total moron he is. Her face and body language are clearly indicating for him to stop and he blithely goes about kissing her hand and embracing her. The media gave him a pass. The Dalai Lama is also a fraud. He ran away from his kingdom generations ago and now gives speeches extolling communism.

Jane Lynch is making obscene comments about Sarah Palin. Mind you only a week ago there were reports that she is close to signing a deal to host the Emmys. I encourage everyone to begin a campaign to let the Academy of Television know that they should make another selection. Ms. Lynch has enjoyed her freedom of speech and now we have the freedom to not watch their awards show.

Big Hollywood : Top 25 Left-Wing Films: #17 - 'The American President' (1995)

"Reds" is a personal favorite of mine. This is an example of a film I love, but if someone tells me it is too dull or political for them, I won't argue. My wife can't stand "Reds" because she can't follow the politics. She loves "The American President", which I hate, because of it's politics.

Big Hollywood : What Shoulda' Won Best Picture of 1986

"The Mission" should have won Best Film in 1986 in my opinion. Oliver Stone has written many great screenplays and directed several excellent films, but "Platoon" didn't work for me because it fell prey to the problem of many "anti-war" movies. By showing war, you cannot help but glamorize it. In "Platoon" you light your cigarette with a Zippo and then torch a village. You shotgun marijuana hits through your rifle barrel with your platoon buddies. And when you die, you are shot with your arms outstretched, martyr-like, in glorious slow motion. "Platoon" is like VietnamLand at a theme park. "Full Metal Jacket" is the ultimate Vietnam film for me. Its black humor keeps the war from becoming romanticized.

Great article, but I would say it didn't start with Rambo. The theme began to emerge in the seventies. Paul Schrader wrote tw wonderful screenplays that touched on the theme: "Taxi Driver" and the lesser known, but very powerful "Rolling Thunder." The theme is subtle in "Taxi Driver," just the patch on Travis's army jacket and the reference in his job interview at the beginning.
