We need to know how much, if any, immunity one has once they’ve had the virus.

Full immunity - revert back to protecting the vulnerable and letting it run its course in the rest of the population.
No immunity - shut the doors and wait years for a vaccine.

The government bowed to massive media pressure to impose the lockdown and it looks like they’ll be faced with lifting under similar media pressure.

I want to get back to work, go holiday, go to church, etc but the worst thing would be to see the rate of infection spreading over the summer and going through this all again later in the year.

What I find interesting reading the comments on BBC politics articles posted on Facebook, is the comments on one hand claiming they have a left leaning bias (i.e not supportive of the government) and a similar number of comments claiming the BBC are pushing “tory propaganda”, etc Only this morning I saw a comment urging Boris to do something stupid so the BBC could spin it for him and make him look good. (What!?)

Does that mean they’re getting it right?

Being able to get your news from endless sources means I don’t value the BBC as much as a national institution anymore, and the idea of a poll tax to pay for it seems wildly outdated.

Furthermore, rolling coverage means they need to fill the air time, and one of the biggest problems in my view is journalists giving opinions or commentary rather than facts. Tricky, I know, but that sort of stuff has damaged their reputation. Ditto Sky and others.

Personally, once I’d decided which schools were to open, I’d have them only open for two days a week for a week or two, then three, etc.

Going from rather patchy home schooling straight back into the full routine of five days a week would be quite an adjustment for all involved, including parents who may or may not be working. It could also be useful in minimising any resurgence in virus spreading.

I’d be tempted to have schools running during July and August, with two weeks off at the end of August before the new academic year. (I know Scotland is different)

I’m not a fan of the target culture and the often inevitable feeling that they will be missed. The media and the Left were itching to crucify Matt Hancock if the target had not been met. It was palpable.

Amazing result to get over the line so spectacularly and every credit to those involved.

But, quelle surprise, the very people who would have tried to force Hancock’s resignation if he’d missed the target are now saying testing isn’t the main issue, it’s only meaningful when hand in hand with tracing, etc.

Certain people are determined to use whatever they can find in this crisis to hammer the government, and it’s so childishly obvious and rather wearing.

I think most people really value the care they receive from the NHS, and issues are often related to bloated admin/logistic type problems.

The thing is, you barely get out the first sentence about reform and you’re immediately pounced on for being a vile evil Tory who wants to privatise “our NHS”. Impossible to even consider doing anything with it. It’s untouchable.

Great news, but I can’t believe he went to the effort of putting a tie on!

I’ve never really rated Matt Hancock but since this crisis kicked off he’s excelled himself.
Really risen to the challenge, got stuck into the detail, kept a cool head.

I wonder if it’s to do with the way government is operating more widely. Boris, Rishi, Hancock are doing a great job here in my view, and I think they’re all really working as a team and keeping each other going.

Massive contrast to other administrations where power was jealously guarded in the centre and ministers were unable to work effectively.

Agree. Whilst recognising his qualities I always found him a bit too squishy liberal and unpredictable.
He’s been great since taking office. Can’t imagine Cameron or May being able to deal with this anywhere near as well.
