"She knows something you don't... Those 3,000 people haven't left...their very ESSENCE has been SANDBLASTED into the still standing structures around World Trade Center... they are still there, in a way...forever..." uh...Sam doesn't know that? Are you really being serious here? That's nice that your tourist wife went to "ground zero" and touched the wall and now knows more than New Yorkers. OK. Sorry, even Rudy would laugh at your statement.

I was ok with it - it wasn't as many people as you'd think, and in general they were really very young. Most of the libs I know are questioning. We just get defensive when criticized by the right. There are idealogues on both sides - I'm a huge fan of Morning Joe, but a lot of people on the right think Joe's a RINO? (so I hear)

I don't give a crap at ALL if I change your mind. Do you live in NY or have you ever? Or, are you somewhere in the midwest in front of a television/radio claiming only republicans can be patriots? I was there, and I think about it DAILY. That doesn't mean we all have to see someone falling to their death. Few things piss me off as much as people who claim a dissenting opinion is pre-9/11 mentality. Give me a freaking break. I was also there in 1993 when they bombed the WTC the first time and wondered when they were going to finish the job, because there was no way we could stop them. I knew the instant I saw the smoke rising that it was a terrorist attack, and I fully expect them to hit the subways next. Jake - grow up.

I also take huge issue with the photo of the falling person. Nothing to do with being liberal, it's about taste. On the afternoon of 9/11 through several months I was as close to being republican as I've ever been, and went to a Rudy book signing (I am not close now). Anyway...Rudy made a really, really dumb gaffe. He can take it, I'm sure.

Jake, it has nothing to do with being PC. It's about using a very painful image for New Yorkers. It's like showing war dead. Not cool. And do you really think anyone in NYC is pretending 9/11 didn't happen? Really? How insulting. You have no idea.

Well, ok, there's that (re. Dean) - I think he's right that the current bill is a disaster for the middle class, though. And that's a great point about the Constitution. I'm not sure if the left will rise up the way many on the right have. It's a criticism that I have, that we don't get "angry" enough (one of my criticisms of the president as well). I think Ed Schultz is very quickly emerging as the voice of any kind of movement though. This is a good thing. He seems to be the only MSNBC pundit who can make Ron Christie smile (I think they're friends) and he's not afraid to take on his people. We need someone like that with a microphone. Chris Matthews, on the other hand, dismissed those of us who are critical of the HCR bill as "netroots" who don't know anything. I like Chris, but I think it's ok to ask questions (vital, really)

I didn't assign the label, your own people did...I'm not at political war...I'm sorry that you guys didn't know the term had double meaning, but I take no credit for it. Likewise, I don't get all freaked out about being called a socialist, an idiot, a crazy liberal, or any other term, nor did I lose it when last night someone here called me a c-sucker. (comment was removed so I'll just abbreviate the word). The left assigned "anti-choice" but did not assign "tea bagger."

It's true. Who cares what this little cartoon says, especially in light of Glenn Beck's form of "satire"? I don't get offended by Glenn Beck.
I totally agree with you, Political Lies. I'm VERY unhappy with the political gamesmanship involved in producing this senate healthcare bill. I've been really outspoken about it in other venues (twitter) and I was actually called a \"tea bagger\" by two people on the left. It frustrates me when people decide to blindly take on the party line and buy into everything their leaders put out there. Now the left likely won't join the Tea Party movement because ultimately we believe different things...but, I wouldn't be surprised if something similar sprung up from the growing dissatisfaction with our elected officials. A few media public figures have spoken out about this - Markos from Daily Kos in regards to healthcare, Ed Schultz is constantly doing it. Howard Dean did too and he has been shredded for it, but he's (IMO) absolutely right.

I don't know that the right and left will ever really come together about it because we differ on issues, but I'd love it (LOVE IT) if the parties did come together and somehow demand that the elected officials remember that they are representing the people and not themselves, or lobbyists.

Thank you. It's true. And I agree that it's not entirely fair for the joke to have been made by the people on my side given that the people who originally used the term clearly didn't know about the other connotation.

Big Journalism : Sarah Palin Signs With Fox News, Liberals' Heads Explode

McCain wanted Lieberman. It was reported all over the place before he picked Palin. Rove talked him out of it. I believe the first time I heard it was from Andrea Mitchell. Rove felt that the country wasn't ready for Lieberman. This week, it was reported that Palin was chosen after a quick internet search - um, ok. Whether that's true or not I have no idea.

You can try to turn this around and ask for Obama's qualifications, but the notion that he's less qualified than Palin is a tired argument that's totally ludicrous and after dealing with it pre-election until I was blue in the face, I see no need to continue with that debate. Having said that, I'm not happy with how he's handling things, particularly in regards to healthcare.

...I didn't make jokes about gay people. I don't know what you're talking about. If anything, I've heard the sexual reference of "tea bagging" in a drunken frat boy context :-/ Ok, here are some references. The first time I heard the reference I heard a conservative say it on the news and I thought to myself, hmm...does he really want to use that particular phrase...(can't remember now who it was). Regardless, here are some links: Headline of the first post here: <a href="http://www.snopes.com/politics/taxes/teaparty.asp" target="_blank">http://www.snopes.com/politics/taxes/teaparty.asp The Humble Libertarian: A Reminder To Tea Bag The Fools In Washington DC On April 1st <a href="http://www.humblelibertarian.com/2009/03/reminder..." target="_blank">http://www.humblelibertarian.com/2009/03/reminder... This photo: http://washingtonindependent.com/wp-content/uploa... And, there's the link I posted in my original post where the crying man said he had a tea bag group. There was also a Fox news commentator saying "teabag DC" or something like that, but the clip was from Maddow and I figured you didn't want me to post that one here... Just sayin'. You can rant at me all you want but I'm not a media pundit - as your TokenLiberal, I will throw myself on the altar for them, hee. (my advice? As I stated in my first post...just blow it off...most people are over the joke and now call you Tea Partiers or Tea Party Movement - protesting it only revives it)

You're right about the term but the reason leftist pundits made the joke in the first place was because the original tea party members called themselves that. That was what struck them as funny - the fact that they'd call themselves tea baggers. Just explaining where that came from. Would it have been used if the people didn't originally use it on themselves? Maybe...but probably not by mainstream pundits. Bloggers, on twitter, perhaps.
